Fulltone MDV3

The Fulltone MDV-3 Deja Vibe is a vibrato pedal from Fulltone, built as a rocker-pedal enclosure version of the Deja Vibe Mini, with a treadle for real-time effect manipulation¹. It is part of the Deja Vibe line, which MusicRadar calls the best-known Uni-Vibe replacement¹. Joe Perry of Aerosmith runs one on his pedalboard and described it as "kind of like the original"².

What it does

The MDV-3 delivers the Uni-Vibe sound, the sweeping phase-shifted vibrato/chorus effect associated with the original Shin-ei Uni-Vibe circuit. Its treadle lets you manipulate the effect in real time with your foot, the way a wah player works an expression pedal, rather than only setting a speed knob³. MusicRadar notes that on earlier Deja Vibe pedals the oversized speed knob often had guitarists adjusting speed by hand, and the rocker format addresses that directly¹.

The pedal runs at 18v³ and uses fully discrete components, staying close to the original circuit's approach¹. It is true bypass, which MusicRadar identifies as the point at which it strays from the design of the original Uni-Vibe¹.
