The display

The Caliber's most distinctive feature is its screen. Premier Guitar's reviewer noted that it takes up about 75 percent of the top surface and gives the pedal the look of a chunky smartphone, with large flat/sharp indicators and big block-letter notes2. MusicRadar's report calls it a high definition big screen that is easily visible in all lighting situations3.

The display also tells you where you stand at a glance: everything that illuminates turns from red to green when you hit your desired mark2, and MusicRadar puts it the same way, the entire display changes green when you are in tune, and red when you are out of tune3.

"The Caliber Pedal Tuner is priced similarly to rival products, but its exceptional display warrants special consideration."

Tuning and calibration

The Caliber tunes chromatically with a detection accuracy of +/-0.5 cent and a wide detection range running from A0 (27.5Hz) up to C8 (4186.00Hz)31. That range covers the full span of a standard guitar or bass, from the lowest bass notes to the highest fretted pitches.

A calibration push-button on the left side permits easy scrolling through reference pitches from 430 Hz to 450 Hz2, a range GoGo Tuners also lists on the product page1. Calibration lets you match the pedal to another instrument or to an ensemble playing at a pitch other than standard A440.

Bypass, power and hooking it up

The pedal is equipped with true bypass and provides daisy chain power for other pedals3, and GoGo Tuners lists daisy chaining with other pedals as a feature1. True bypass means the tuner's circuit is removed from your signal path when the pedal is off, which matters for a tuner that sits permanently on a board.

For power, the reviewer fired it up with a 9V Boss-style adaptor, which is not included, and notes that battery power is an option2.

The 9V adaptor is not included with the pedal2. Plan for a Boss-style 9V supply or a battery.

Where it came from

GoGo Tuners debuted the Caliber Pedal Tuner at NAMM 2015, describing it as its latest product with upgrades such as a calibration mode and tighter tuning accuracy3. The company also pointed to the Caliber's high-definition big screen, which it says is easily visible in all lighting situations3.

For context on how the Caliber sits among pedal tuners, see the Tuner Pedals page, or compare with widely used models such as the Boss TU3 Tuner or the Peterson StroboStomp HD.
