GUP Tech Bouh-Nana Octave Machine

Fuzz
Key facts
Typeoctave fuzz pedal with 8-bit style sound1
MakerGUP Tech, Saguenay, Québec, Canada1
Price£77.00 GBP (as listed, October 2026)1
Power9VDC center-negative, 17mA1

The GUP Tech Bouh-Nana Octave Machine is an octave fuzz pedal that works two ways. With the Sub, Down and Up knobs turned down, it acts, in the maker's words, like a wild fuzz. Turn those three up and it adds a monophonic, 8-bit style octave sound on top. GUP Tech calls it "the perfect \"Jack Whit-ish\" tone machine."1

Controls

The Bouh-Nana has six knobs, and they split cleanly into two groups: the fuzz itself, and the octave voices layered over it. Level sets the overall post-volume of the pedal, Base controls the amount of direct fuzz signal, and filter adjusts the EQ (like a RAT), while the Sub, Down and UP knobs add monophonic 8-bit style sound1.

ControlWhat it does
BaseControls the amount of direct fuzz signal1
FilterAdjusts the EQ, described by GUP Tech as working like a RAT's filter1
LevelThe overall post-volume of the pedal1
SubAdds monophonic 8-bit style octave sound1
DownAdds monophonic 8-bit style octave sound1
UpAdds monophonic 8-bit style octave sound1

In practice that means the Base, Filter and Level knobs shape the core fuzz, while Sub, Down and Up blend in the octave effect. Because the octave section is monophonic, it tracks single notes; chords are the territory of the straight fuzz side of the pedal1.

Power and current draw

The pedal runs on a standard 9VDC center-negative supply and draws 17mA, a light load that any common pedalboard power output can handle.1

Versions and availability

GUP Tech updated the design in October 2025: "New design, Prof Pinotte is now nicely disguised as a spooky banana." The pedal is offered in a glow in the dark purple finish.1

The Bouh-Nana is part of a wider GUP Tech fuzz range, which includes the Phoque Face Fuzz, the PhoqueR with a Green Ringer added, and the Bloup! Octavia Fuzz Tribute for a classic octave fuzz flavor. See the full range on the Fuzz Pedals page.

Questions

What power supply does the GUP Tech Bouh-Nana need?

The Bouh-Nana runs on a 9VDC center-negative power supply, the same standard used by most pedalboard supplies. GUP Tech lists this on the product page, along with the pedal's current draw, so a regular 9V output on a daisy chain or isolated supply will run it.

How much current does the Bouh-Nana draw?

GUP Tech lists the power consumption of the Bouh-Nana at 17mA. That is a light load by pedal standards, so it fits comfortably alongside other pedals on a standard 9V supply without needing a dedicated high-current output.

Where is the GUP Tech Bouh-Nana made?

GUP Tech builds all of its pedals in Saguenay, Québec, Canada, and the Bouh-Nana is made there by the company itself rather than outsourced.

Is the Bouh-Nana Octave Machine polyphonic?

No. The octave sounds from the Sub, Down and Up knobs are monophonic, in an 8-bit style. With those three knobs turned down, the pedal acts as a wild fuzz instead, which is the polyphonic-friendly part of the circuit.

What does the Filter knob do on the Bouh-Nana?

The Filter knob adjusts the EQ of the pedal. GUP Tech describes it as working like the filter on a Pro Co RAT, so it shapes the tone from darker to brighter across its travel.
