The GUP Tech Deep-C Compressor is a compressor with a clean volume boost, based on the old Ross compressor. GUP Tech describes it as "some badass dirty old comp paired with a clean volume boost," and the pedal carries two footswitches: the left activates the compressor, the right activates the boost, which sits before the compressor in the signal path1. It was formerly known as the SQWZR AF1.

What it does and how it is controlled

This is what GUP Tech calls the "Hot Rodded Ross compressor edition," adding a Clip knob and an Attack knob to the Ross design. The Clip knob sets the compressor's clip character, and the Attack knob sets the compressor's attack1. The boost side is a clean volume boost, and because it can run without the compressor engaged, the pedal works as a two-in-one: compression, boost, or both together1.

The Ross circuit behind it

The Ross compressor that the Deep-C is based on was itself an update of the MXR Dyna Comp. Aion FX, which documents the circuit, says the Ross design involved "making a few small updates to the Dyna Comp circuit in the process, mostly related to power filtering and noise reduction," and notes that it "has better power supply filtering and thus lower noise, but is otherwise very similar to the Dyna Comp"2. For a player, that means the Deep-C sits in the same family as the classic orange squeeze box, with the Ross lineage's lower-noise power filtering behind it.

Versions

The Douche Edition of the Deep-C is a separate listing: the same Ross-based compressor and clean boost in a super limited "hammered blue" box3. See the GUPtech Deep-C Compressor - Douche Edition page for that version.

Who uses it

GUP Tech's page quotes Barton Turner, who pairs the Deep-C with the company's Big Pi Notte fuzz pedal: "I've never used a compressor pedal before and am really enjoying how it mixes it up with the Big Pi Notte fuzz pedal"1.

Questions

Can the Deep-C boost be used without the compressor?

Yes. GUP Tech says the boost can be used alone without the compressor being active, turning the pedal into what the maker calls a 2-in-1 Swiss knife. The left footswitch activates the compressor and the right footswitch activates the boost, which sits before the compressor in the signal path.

What power does the GUP Tech Deep-C need?

The Deep-C runs on 9Vdc, center negative only. GUP Tech lists power consumption at 4mA, which is low enough that the pedal puts very little demand on a shared power supply.

Was the Deep-C Compressor called something else before?

Yes. GUP Tech's product page says the Deep-C was formerly known as the SQWZR AF. It is the same circuit, a Ross-style compressor paired with a clean volume boost, now sold under the Deep-C name.

Where is the GUP Tech Deep-C made?

GUP Tech states that all of its pedals are made by the company in Saguenay, Québec, Canada, and the Deep-C is no exception.

How much current does the Deep-C draw?

GUP Tech lists power consumption at 4mA on both the Deep-C and the Deep-C Douche Edition product pages, dated October 2026.
