The GUP Tech Douche Edition Pumpky is a distortion pedal from GUP Tech, a builder based in Saguenay, Quebec, Canada, where all of the company's pedals are made by hand. It is the Douche Edition of the Pumpky Distortion: the same circuit, fitted in a gold enclosure. GUP Tech describes the Pumpky as a tribute to the newer V2 version of the OCD, and the Douche Edition page shows the pedal as sold out.1

What it does

The Pumpky is a distortion built around the V2 OCD circuit, and its two toggles are what set it apart from a straightforward clone. GUP Tech puts it this way21:

The right toggle handles the clipping option, giving three distinct flavors of distortion from one box, from the more open no-clipping setting to the harder LED clip and the stock-style Germanium and MOSFET combination. The left toggle is a filter selector. GUP Tech also lists a very high input impedance, which matters if you run the pedal after a fuzz or a low-output single-coil guitar and want to keep the top end intact.1

On Pumpky units built after the May 2024 design update, GUP Tech describes the right toggle's lower position as the classic stock MOSFET plus Germanium clipping, replacing the original buffer/no-buffer toggle on all new units.2

Power

The Douche Edition Pumpky runs on 9V DC with a center negative plug and draws 6mA, a very light load for a pedalboard supply.1 On the Pumpky Distortion page, GUP Tech notes the circuit is 9-18V compatible as well as 9Vdc center negative.2

The Douche Edition and the Pumpky range

The Douche Edition is a limited-cosmetics version of the Pumpky Distortion, with GUP Tech describing it as the same circuit in a nice gold enclosure.1 The Pumpky Distortion itself is the regular model, available in styles such as Sky blue and Gray.2 GUP Tech describes the Pumpky Distortion as a tribute to the newer V2 version of the OCD, and the maker builds all of its pedals in Saguenay, Québec, Canada.1

The standard Pumpky Distortion has been offered in different enclosure styles, including Sky blue and Gray.3
