The SMK Distortion Douche Edition is a distortion pedal from GUP Tech, a builder based in Saguenay, Québec, Canada, where all of its pedals are made by hand1. The name SMK stands for "So Many Knobs!", and the company describes the circuit as its take on two of the best Friedman pedals, the BE-OD and the Dirty Shirley1. It is also half the circuit of the GUP Tech DCD, the company's dual channel distortion pedal, so players who want a second channel in one box can look there instead1.
Controls
The pedal carries the "So Many Knobs!" name for a reason. GUP Tech says it gives full control of your tone with Volume, Presence, Gain, a full EQ and a Tight knob1. The Tight knob and the full EQ are what set this apart from simpler two- or three-knob distortions: they let a player shape the low end and the overall EQ balance of the distortion itself rather than leaving those fixed inside the circuit.
Power and setup
The pedal runs on 9 to 18V DC, center negative, and draws 18mA1. That current draw is modest enough for most standard pedalboard power supplies, and the 9 to 18V range gives players the option of running it at a higher voltage if their supply supports it.
Availability
As of 2026-10-26, GUP Tech's product page showed only 1 unit left1.
GUP Tech lists the pedal at £99.00 GBP1. The Douche Edition naming is part of a wider family of limited runs from the builder, which also includes pedals like the Pile O' RATs and the Douche Edition Pumpky.
