The Centrifuge is an analog phaser from Hochstrasser Electronics, a maker better known for its Transmogriphaser. Pedal of the Day describes it as "an analog phaser with a simple control section and tons of bold modulation"1.
What it does
The circuit is based on the rare Maestro MP1 phaser from decades past, and is an OTA-based phase shifter, meaning the phase shift stages are built around operational transconductance amplifiers rather than the more common transistor or op-amp stage designs1.
The control section is simple. Speed determines how quickly the phase shifting modulates, while Peak adjusts the amount of resonance in the circuit. A mode switch sets the pedal's character: it functions as a phaser in the top position, and as a pitch-shifting vibrato in the down position1.
Pedal of the Day describes the range of the circuit as wide: "The range in the circuit here goes from a subtle coloring to being an almost vocal effect." The reviewer's overall take was that experimentation with the switches and knobs is the point of the pedal: "Experimentation is key with these switches and knobs, making a seemingly simple pedal hold a vast amount of opportunity"1.
