The Hungry Robot Mosfet Screamer is an overdrive pedal based on the Tube Screamer circuit. Maker Hungry Robot Pedals describes it as "my take on the fabled tubescreamer," but the circuit is heavily modified rather than a copy: "It is far from stock specifications on any TS model. It is heavily modified and tweaked to my taste."1

What it does

The Mosfet Screamer keeps the Tube Screamer foundation but departs from it in two main ways. First, the input and output buffers found in a stock TS are removed from the circuit. Second, part values are tweaked and an extra section of circuitry is added at the beginning of the pedal.1

Two toggle switches set the character of the drive:

ControlWhat it does
Mosfet gain toggleSets the gain of the Mosfet stage1
Clipping toggleSelects between two sets of clipping diodes for subtle changes in gain structure1

For players comparing it with the stock design, the differences are the removed buffers, the added front-end circuitry, and the two toggles, none of which appear on a standard Tube Screamer. For context on the circuit it starts from, see the Boss SD-1 vs Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer comparison, or browse other overdrive pedals. Hungry Robot's current overdrive line also includes The Lumen1.

Availability

The Mosfet Screamer was a discontinued model. In July 2022, Hungry Robot marked its 10 year anniversary by launching the Hungry Robot Classics line, reissuing older discontinued models. These are sold direct-only and built one by one as orders come in, so the pedal is not a regular stock item at dealers.1

Classics reissues are direct-only and built to order one by one, so lead times and availability differ from a normally stocked pedal.1

Other Classics reissues from the same program include the Mosfet Breaker, the LG, the hg and the hg+lg1.

Questions

Is the Hungry Robot Mosfet Screamer still in production?

The Mosfet Screamer was a discontinued model that Hungry Robot brought back in July 2022 as part of its Classics line, marking the company's 10 year anniversary. Classics pedals are direct-only offerings, built one by one as orders come in, so availability depends on the maker's own ordering page rather than normal retail stock.
