Controls and how it works
The Boomster mk.2 is built around three voicings: High-cut, Full-range and Mid-boost. JAM describes the Full-range voicing as keeping "the response flat and open," which is the setting for players who want the boost to leave the guitar's basic tone untouched2. The High-cut and Mid-boost settings shape the boosted signal for a darker or more forward midrange character.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Level | Provides up to 16 dB of clean boost; minimum setting sits at unity gain1 |
| Voicing switch | Selects High-cut, Full-range or Mid-boost1 |
| Footswitch | Supports both momentary and latching operation1 |
| Internal DIP switches | Select true or buffered bypass1 |
The selectable bypass is worth a moment on a pedalboard. True bypass takes the pedal fully out of the signal path when off, while the buffered setting keeps a buffer in line, which can help where long cable runs or many pedals would otherwise dull the top end. The choice is made with internal DIP switches rather than an external toggle1.
Using it as a volume pedal
A standard passive 10 kΩ expression pedal plugged into the expression input turns the Boomster mk.2 into what JAM calls "a travelling volume pedal," giving foot-controlled level changes without a separate volume unit on the board1. For players who only occasionally need volume swells or fades, that can replace a dedicated volume pedal; players who use one constantly may still prefer a dedicated unit from the Volume Pedals range.
The pedal accepts 9 to 18V DC, center negative, and JAM recommends an isolated supply. Maximum current draw is 50 mA1.
Custom artwork versions
The "Evil Green" is one of several custom artwork versions of the Boomster mk.2, all of which JAM describes as sharing the same sound with different artwork. The range includes the JAM Pedals "Dala" Boomster mk.2, the "Achenbach" Boomster mk.2, the "Mid Air" Boomster mk.2 and a "Relic" Boomster mk.2, which is sold out13.
Every custom artwork pedal is a one-of-a-kind hand-painted piece, and JAM notes that the pedal received will differ in detail from the photos shown on its product page1. Buyers considering one of these pedals should expect variation in the finish as part of the design.
JAM also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, with a refund no questions asked on return of the product1.
