The JAM Pedals "GreenSkull" Rattler ltd is a limited, hand-painted artwork version of the company's Rattler distortion, a Rat-style circuit the maker labels "NOS DISTORTION." Its core voice comes from an NOS LM308AH metal-can op-amp, supported by carbon-composition resistors, tropical-fish capacitors and point-to-point wiring1. Like every Rattler ltd, it carries one-of-a-kind artwork: JAM Pedals notes that "every limited artwork pedal is a one-of-a-kind hand-painted piece," and that the pedal received will differ in detail from the photos shown1.

The GreenSkull Rattler ltd is sold out, according to JAM Pedals' own product pages32. Because each limited artwork pedal is hand painted as a one-off, a sold-out version is not simply restocked.

The controls

The GreenSkull Rattler ltd keeps the classic three-knob layout, plus a gain-range toggle1:

ControlWhat it does
LevelSets output
ToneShapes the response
GainControls saturation
ToggleSelects high gain (to the right) or lower gain (to the left)1

The toggle is the fourth control worth knowing about. In the low-gain position, JAM Pedals describes the pedal as "more open, less compressed and closer to overdrive," which widens the pedal's range beyond straight distortion and lets it lean toward overdrive territory1.

Circuit and components

The heart of the pedal is the NOS LM308AH metal-can op-amp, the chip associated with the classic Rat-style voicing. Around it, JAM Pedals uses carbon-composition resistors, tropical-fish capacitors and point-to-point wiring, a construction approach the maker highlights on the product page1. The clipping is smooth and symmetrical: JAM Pedals says symmetrical clipping "gives the Rattler ltd. a smoother, less hairy response than the standard model while retaining full" range authority, distinguishing it from the standard Rattler1.

The Rattler ltd family

The GreenSkull is one of several custom artwork versions of the Rattler ltd, all sharing the same circuit. JAM Pedals puts it simply: "Same sound, different artwork"13. Other artwork versions in the family include:

The "GreenSkull" Rattler ltd is a limited run and is now sold out2. It runs on a NOS LM308AH metal-can op-amp and draws 6 mA1.
