The JAM Pedals "Tutti Frutti" Delay Llama XTREME is a hand-painted custom artwork edition of the Delay Llama XTREME, JAM Pedals' analog delay with presets and modulation. It is the same pedal in sound and function, built on an analog delay core of three 3205 bucket-brigade (BBD) chips, with 800 ms of maximum delay time, four presets plus manual mode, tap tempo with subdivisions, and four XTREME modulation modes1.

What makes this edition different is the finish. JAM Pedals describes it plainly1:

"Every custom artwork pedal is a one-of-a-kind hand-painted piece. The pedal you receive will differ in detail"1

JAM Pedals product page1

In other words, the pedal you get will not look exactly like the photos: each one is painted individually. The "Tutti Frutti" is one of several custom artwork versions of the XTREME, alongside the "Eye in the Sky", "Spirit of the Sword", "Achenbach monohead", "Achenbach multi-head" and "Relic" editions, all of which share the same sound with different artwork1.

Controls and connections

The main delay sound is set by three controls, with tap tempo subdivisions available in eighth notes, quarter notes and dotted eighths1.

Control or jackWhat it does
Time, Repeats, LevelSet the main delay sound, with eighth-note, quarter-note and dotted-eighth subdivisions1
Right footswitchTap at least twice to set tempo; hold for oscillation1
Middle footswitchA prolonged press turns the selected XTREME mode on or off1
DT jackAccepts a passive 10 kΩ expression pedal for delay time, or 0-5V CV with the internal DIP switches set to CV mode1
PS jackAccepts a TRS preset controller1
TAP jackAccepts a normally-open TS momentary remote switch1

The optional JAM Pedals CTRL BOX provides direct access to presets and tap/HOLD1.

The four XTREME modes

The XTREME part of the pedal is a set of four modulation modes that go beyond a standard delay1:

  • Random: changes delay time at fixed intervals for abrupt pitch and rhythmic shifts1
  • Tape-Age: creates random, worn-tape-style pitch variation1
  • Vibrato: adds sine-wave modulation with adjustable depth and speed1
  • Pitch-Shift: offers five interval pairs and five playback patterns, including a five-mode sequencer1

Internal switches and trimmers

Inside the pedal, two switches and two trimmers shape how it behaves in a rig1:

  • TRLS switch: selects buffered trails or true bypass1
  • KD switch: activates kill-dry operation, muting the dry signal so only repeats pass through1
  • Multi-turn trimmer: sets the maximum repeat count1
  • Second trimmer: sets maximum trails decay in buffered bypass1

Power is 9V DC, center-negative, and JAM Pedals recommends an isolated supply. With a maximum current draw of 130 mA, this is not a battery pedal, and the center-negative polarity and current needs should be checked against your power supply before you build it into a board.

Buying and returns

The list price is £439.00 as stated on JAM Pedals' product page (October 2026)1. UK orders ship DDP, with 20% UK VAT and all duties included and no extra charges on delivery1. JAM Pedals offers a refund within 30 days of receiving the product, no questions asked1.

Questions

Is the Delay Llama XTREME true bypass?

It is selectable. The internal TRLS switch lets you choose true bypass or buffered trails, so you can either have the delay cut dead when you switch it off, or let the repeats fade out naturally. A second internal trimmer sets how long the trails decay in buffered mode.

How long is the maximum delay time on the Delay Llama XTREME?

The maximum delay time is 800 ms, produced by three 3205 bucket-brigade (BBD) chips in the analog delay core. Time, Repeats and Level controls shape the main delay sound, with tap tempo subdivisions in eighth notes, quarter notes and dotted eighths.

Can you use an expression pedal or CV with the Delay Llama XTREME?

Yes. The DT jack accepts a passive 10 kΩ expression pedal for delay time, or a 0-5V control voltage when the internal DIP switches are set to CV mode. The PS jack also accepts a TRS preset controller, and TAP accepts a normally-open TS momentary remote switch.

What does kill-dry do on the Delay Llama XTREME?

The internal KD switch activates kill-dry operation, which mutes your dry signal so only the delayed repeats pass through. This is useful in parallel effects loops or when you want the pedal to act as a pure wet effect.

How do you set tap tempo on the Delay Llama XTREME?

Tap the right footswitch at least twice at the tempo you want. Holding the right footswitch puts the delay into oscillation. A prolonged press on the middle footswitch turns the selected XTREME modulation mode on or off.
