The Jeds Peds Zendaya is a DIY overdrive kit for players who want to build their own pedal. Jeds Peds describes it as "a beautiful overdrive box that stacks well with other pedals", and says the circuit "compares to the Zen Drive", the overdrive known for its distinctive mid-focused voice. The kit is sold directly by the maker at £34.00 as of 26 October 20261.
What it is based on
The Zendaya is not a copy sold under another name. Jeds Peds calls it one of its original designs, one that "compares to the Zen Drive". The maker describes the tone as "world renowned for its uniqe, exceptional tone" and calls it "a very pleasing overdrive that stacks well with other pedals", which is the quality players usually look for in a Zen Drive style circuit: a drive that sits well alongside other pedals rather than replacing them1.
If you are weighing a Zen Drive style overdrive against other classic drives, the Overdrive Pedals page sets out the wider field, and the Boss SD-1 vs Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer comparison covers two of the most common alternatives.
The updated design
The Zendaya has been revised since it first appeared. The current version adds the ability to mount the pots to the PCB, which changes how the pedal goes together inside the enclosure. Jeds Peds is clear about what did and did not change1:
"There are no changes to the parts, just its layout and appearance."
For a builder, that means the circuit is the same as before, but the board can be assembled with the controls mounted on the PCB rather than wired to separate pots1.
What the kit includes and what you supply
The kit comes with a JP125B sized enclosure as standard. A few things are left to the builder1:
- Four knobs are required, and Jeds Peds suggests medium sized ones1
- The builder chooses top or side mounted jacks and power when assembling1
- The pots can be mounted to the PCB in the updated layout1
Warranty
Jeds Peds gives a 12 month repair warranty on pre-built kits and does not accept returns on them. The maker's words: "There are no returns accepted on these but I do give a 12 month repair warranty so should a fault be developed I will re"1. In practice, that means a fault that develops after the build is repaired by the maker rather than refunded.
