The JedsPeds Gobbles is a DIY guitar effects pedal kit for an overdrive, a circuit the maker says "compares to the Timmy", one of the most popular overdrive pedals out there1. Like all JedsPeds kits, it is aimed at players who want to build their own overdrive pedal rather than buy one finished, though a pre-built option exists.
Controls
The Gobbles has four knobs. The thing to know before you build it is that the Treble and Bass controls are cut controls, not boost controls, so they run the opposite way to most pedals1.
"Its worth knowing that this was designed with Treble and Bass cut controls, in other words, they work backwards. 10 - 1"
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Treble | Cut control, works backwards, 10 to 1 not 1 to 101 |
| Bass | Cut control, works backwards, 10 to 1 not 1 to 101 |
| Two further knobs | Four knobs in total on the board1 |
The PCB is laid out with the four pots spaced for right angled mounted pots, which suits the JP125B enclosure the kit comes with1.
Kit options
JedsPeds sells the Gobbles in five forms, so you can take on as much of the build as you want1:
- PCB Only: just the plain PCB
- PCB & Components
- PCB & Components and off board parts
- Full Kit
- Full Kit & Drilling
Drilling is an optional extra for the Full Kit: it includes all the holes for a complete pedal and carries a small surcharge1.
The Pre Built Kit has a 1 to 4 week build time. Returns are not accepted on pre-built units, but JedsPeds gives a 12 month repair warranty, so if a fault develops the maker will repair it1.
The Timmy comparison
JedsPeds describes the Gobbles as a kit that compares to the Timmy, but the maker is explicit that this is a comparison and nothing more: "There is no endorsement or approval from any manufacturer and this information is for comparison only"1. If you are weighing a Timmy-style circuit against other drives, our Boss SD-1 vs Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer comparison and other JedsPeds kits such as the AndyChad, KAREN!!! and GOAT cover nearby ground.

Questions
Why do the Treble and Bass knobs on the Gobbles work backwards?
The circuit was designed with Treble and Bass cut controls rather than boost controls. That means the knobs work backwards, running from 10 down to 1 instead of 1 up to 10: turning them towards 10 leaves the most treble and bass in the signal, and turning them down cuts more. JedsPeds flags this on the product page so builders are not caught out when wiring and using the knobs.
Is the JedsPeds Gobbles available pre-built?
Yes. Alongside the kit options, JedsPeds offers a Pre Built Kit. It has a 1 to 4 week build time, returns are not accepted, and it carries a 12 month repair warranty, so if a fault develops the maker will repair it.
What enclosure does the Gobbles use?
The kit comes with a JP125B enclosure from JedsPeds, and the PCB is designed for right angled pots, with the four pots spaced for right angled mounted pots.
Is the Gobbles approved by the maker of the Timmy?
No. JedsPeds states plainly that there is no endorsement or approval from any manufacturer, and that the comparison to the Timmy is for information only.
What does the Full Kit & Drilling option include?
Full Kit & Drilling is the Full Kit with the enclosure holes drilled. Drilling is an optional extra for the Full Kit and carries a small surcharge, and it includes all the holes needed for a complete pedal.
