The Joyo Wah-2 is a compact pedal that works as both a wah and a volume pedal, announced by Joyo in March 2019. It is the red version of a pair that also includes the Joyo Wah-1, and the two share the same basic design: both have Wah and Volume functions in a smaller, pedalboard-friendly format1.
Controls
The Wah-2 carries two knobs on top of the pedal:
- Quality: an added control for the Q value knob, which sets how pronounced the wah effect is. GearNews noted the name is "oddly" chosen for a Q control1.
- Range: adjusts the width of the sweep and the pedal's frequency range1.
An LED shows you when the pedal is engaged1.
Wah and volume modes
Both functions live under one rocker. In wah mode the pedal is true-bypass, so it will not mess with your tone when not engaged1. The Wah-2's added Quality knob is the only difference between it and the Wah-1, which otherwise shares the same wah and volume functions1.
How it compares
The Wah-2 sits above the Joyo Wah-1 in the range, at USD 79 against the Wah-1's USD 69 RRP1. GearNews' Jef saw the extra ten dollars as money well spent on the Quality knob:
"It only costs $10 more, so I would probably say that it is the one to go for."
If you mainly want a volume pedal without the wah, the volume pedal field includes everything from the Ernie Ball Mono Volume Pedal to the compact Dunlop Volume X Mini, and other wah/volume combinations such as the Morley Mini Wah Volume cover similar ground.
