The Keeley Electronics Dyno My Roto is a three-in-one modulation pedal: a chorus, a rotary speaker simulation and a flanger in a single standard-sized stompbox. MusicRadar reported its launch in December 2016, describing it as a pedal that "combines chorus, rotary and flanger," designed by Robert Keeley and priced at $169 at launch1. Pedal of the Day later called it "a 3-in-1 modulation machine offering some classic sounds in a pedalboard-friendly little package"2.
The chorus side is the headline. It aims to recreate the tri-stereo rack chorus sounds of the 1980s, and it does so with three LFOs producing a three-voice chorus rather than the typical two-voice design. Pedal of the Day's reviewer found the chorus tones "incredible... and they're only a third of what this pedal can do"2.
The three modes
| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| Chorus | Three LFOs drive a three-voice chorus aimed at '80s vintage rack chorus sounds2 |
| Rotary Cabinet | A Leslie cabinet simulator; the Proximity control sets how far away you are from the spinning speaker cabinet, adding depth and distance like a reverb control2 |
| RotoFlange | A flanger sound with a simple negative feedback control, described by Pedal of the Day as easy to use2 |
MusicRadar's launch report describes the same rotary side as "a rotary sound with adjustable proximity to add depth and distance (tweaked via the texture control)," so the Proximity and Texture controls are the same idea under different names in different reports1.
How it compares
Premier Guitar's roundup of affordable chorus pedals describes the Dyno My Roto as promising "'80s rackmount tri-stereo chorus tones, plus rotary simulator and rotoflange" in a standard-sized stomp, which puts it among the few chorus pedals that also cover rotary and flanging duties3. Delicious Audio's guide to Leslie emulation pedals calls it "both a Leslie simulator and a chorus and flange pedal," but with a caveat worth knowing before you buy:
"Its mono output and lack of ramp control prevent it from being a full-on Leslie emulator, but it sounds great."
The Dyno My Roto's output is mono. If you want a stereo rotary effect for a wet/dry rig or a stereo amp setup, this pedal does not provide one, and Delicious Audio flags that limitation directly4.
Keeley's own reviewer view of the Dyno My Roto sets its limits plainly: "Its mono output and lack of ramp control prevent it from being a full-on Leslie simulator, but, as the video demonstrates, it sounds fantastic"4. For a player weighing it against a true Leslie simulator, those are the two practical differences: the output is mono, and there is no ramp control for speeding up or slowing down the effect with a footswitch.
