The King Tone Soloist Mini is a compact overdrive pedal: a smaller edition of King Tone's SRV Screamer Overdrive, released in September 2026 and aimed at players who need full-size tone on a small board1. King Tone pitches it as "a true premium overdrive for compact pedalboards, travel rigs and fly-boards"2.

The Mini keeps the same control set as the full-size Soloist: Drive, Volume, Body and Tone, with a voicing switch moved inside the enclosure to save space1. It lists at $199.99, against $299.99 for the standard Soloist and $325.00 for the Soloist Deluxe234.

A compact version of the SRV Screamer overdrive

Guitar Pedal X reported the launch on 14 September 2026: "King Tone has released the Soloist Mini Edition of its SRV Screamer Overdrive," a Tubescreamer style overdrive shrunk into a mini enclosure1. The full-size Soloist arrived earlier as part of a three-pedal series King Tone built around classic circuits. As Guitar Pedal X put it in April 2024, "All three derive from classic Blues Breaker, Timmy and Tube Screamer style overdrive circuits, with extended ranges"5.

King Tone goes further on the circuit's lineage, describing the Mini as "Side A of the legendary Duellist pedal," its dual overdrive shared with the Duellist2. Independent kit maker Aion FX, which documents the Soloist circuit for builders, notes that "It's no secret that it's based on the Tube Screamer, but its modifications are significant enough" to set it apart6. Aion FX also details one of those changes: "A 'Body' potentiometer has been added, and the 'Fat' toggle mode has been swapped for the new 'Edge' mode" compared with the Duellist circuit6.

Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson guessed at what makes the shrink possible: "Presumably the Soloist Mini is made with more diminutive SMD parts"1. On the sound, his verdict was short: "The Demo sounds great!"1

"It's a very handsome device in that brushed green anodised aluminium enclosure."

The controls and the internal voicing switch

The Mini carries four external knobs and one internal switch:

ControlWhat it does
DriveRanges from clean boost to rich overdrive2
VolumeSets the output level
BodyIntroduces the lows and warmth often missing from overdrive pedals3
ToneLets you finesse the frequency response3
Voicing switch (internal)Selects Stock, Glass or Edge voicing2

The Body control is the Soloist family's answer to a common Tube Screamer complaint: the maker says it "introduces the lows and warmth often missing from overdrive pedals"3. On the Deluxe version, King Tone adds that when cranked it "delivers chunky, fat riff tones"4.

The voicing switch is the one control you cannot reach from the top of the pedal. Guitar Pedal X flagged that "its internal Glass / Stock / Edge Voicing switch is not surface-mounted," a trade-off that keeps the front panel clean but means a voicing change requires opening the box1. King Tone's own description: "An internal trimmer selects between Stock, Glass and Edge voicings"2.

What the two non-stock positions do:

  • Glass: part of the internal "Edge" and "Glass" control King Tone says "adds glassy, hollow, tube-like bite"2.
  • Edge: on the Soloist family's KingTone setting, it "changes the voicing of the pedal to have an edgy vocal top end and chunky bass"3.
  • Stock: the standard voicing, matching the pedal's default character2.

The full-size Soloist presents the same three top-end settings, Edge, Stock and Glass, on its own switch, so the Mini gives up only the convenience of on-the-fly switching, not the voicings themselves3.

How it fits in the Soloist line

The Soloist Mini is a limited edition, and the demo sounds great23. It is presumably made with more diminutive SMD parts than the standard Soloist.
