The KMA Machines Horizont is a phaser pedal built with JFET transistors, the components that shape the phase-shifting stages of the circuit. Pedal of the Day, reviewing it in November 2018, described it as "an interdimensional, multispatial, JFET phase monster". It runs in stereo, so a stereo rig or a pair of headphones hears the effect across both channels1.
What it does
Where a conventional phaser cycles one modulation shape, the Horizont uses a digital LFO with eight different waveforms, along with feedback loops and envelope generators. KMA Machines describes its range as running "From basic phaser sounds to experimental synthetic soundscapes to dynamic sonic endeavors"1.
Pedal of the Day's reviewer summed up the pedal this way:
"one that has more bells and whistles than any other we've seen, and one that sounds like no other, either."
For a player, that puts the Horizont on the deeper end of the phaser family: it covers the standard sweeping tones, but its feedback loops, envelope generators and eight digital LFO waveforms also let it reach what KMA describes as experimental synthetic soundscapes. Pedal of the Day called it "one that has more bells and whistles than any other we've seen, and one that sounds like no other, either"1.
