The Astrospurt is a phaser pedal from KMA Machines, a company from Germany. The original version was introduced in 2014, when Pedal of the Day ran a video review of it and called it "another unique pedal"1. In 2021 the company sent a revamped version, the Astrospurt 4-Stage JFET Phaser, to Pedal of the Day for review2. As the name says, it is a four-stage JFET phaser, a design that uses JFET transistors rather than optical or other means to create the phase-shifting stages3.
What it does
Pedal of the Day described the revamped Astrospurt as "a wild phaser pedal" with "a HUGE spectrum of sounds", and summed it up this way2:
"the Astrospurt covers all the spacey, dizzy, wobbly sounds you could possibly want…and then some"
The same review found it "Easy to use but also incredibly versatile", working well on its own or teamed with a fuzz or distortion pedal, and covering all modulation needs overall2. For more phasers, see the Phaser Pedals page.
Controls
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Signal | Sets your effect level boost2 |
| Mix | Blends your wet and dry signals2 |
| Depth | Controls how deep and present the phase sound is2 |
| Spurt | A phase range that goes from long and swooshy to fast and choppy, with all points in between2 |
| Emph | Adds elements of semi-controlled noise into the mix, active only when the toggle switch below it is switched on2 |
The Emph effect is engaged by a lone toggle switch below the control2.
