The Krozz Devices Airborn is an analog flanger pedal from Brazil. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson, reviewing it in April 2024, called it "a musical flanger built around a NOS Matsushita MN3207 BBD chip," the new-old-stock bucket-brigade chip associated with classic analog modulation circuits1. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio describes it as "a flanger that will take you on a psychedelic journey on a fully analog circuit," from a company that "prides itself on using the best component avail[able]"2.

Controls and footswitches

The Airborn carries a fairly full control set for a flanger, laid out as Level, Oxidation (Stridency), Range, Feedback, a Positive/Negative Feedback Type switch, Rate, and a Bypass footswitch1. Its dual footswitches provide bypass and Hold/Speed Flutter, the second giving a way to hold or momentarily speed up the modulation1.

ControlWhat it does
LevelOutput level1
Oxidation (Stridency)A frequency filter acting only on the modulated signal, interacting with Feedback; open, the sound is more strident, counter-clockwise the high frequencies of the modulated signal are cut and the effect becomes more subtle2
RangeSets the frequency range where the filter acts when the oscillator is locked2
FeedbackAmount of feedback into the flanging circuit12
+/- switchSelects between positive feedback (+) or negative feedback (-)2
RateSpeed of the modulation1
Bypass footswitchEffect on/off1
Hold/Speed Flutter footswitchHold and speed flutter function1

The internal Filter/Oscillator switch

Inside the pedal there is a small switch that locks (left) and unlocks (right) the oscillator. With the oscillator locked, the filter becomes static and the frequency range where it will act is selected by the position of the Range knob2. Guitar Pedal X frames the same feature as the internal Filter/Oscillator switch parking the LFO for comb-filter use, which turns the pedal from a moving flanger into a static filter1.

What reviewers said

Karlsson's verdict was strongly positive: "I have to say this is one of the most musical Flangers I've yet encountered - and its super easy dial-in will sway many." He found it covers "Sparkly Electric Mistress, EVH Brown Sound, Jet Flanger and woozy sounds," putting Electric Mistress-style filtered flanging and EVH-style jet sounds on one pedal1. Writing later, in February 2025, he named it "probably my current favourite sounding Flanger - the Krozz Airborn," richer and more visceral in texture than the SubDecay Starlight MKIII, and counted it as his own 19th pedal of that genre31.

Questions

Who designed the Krozz Devices Airborn?

The pedal's dark green and gold artwork was created by designer Joey Melo, according to Guitar Pedal X's 2024 review. The pedal itself comes out of Brazil from Krozz Devices, a company that Delicious Audio notes prides itself on using the best components available.

Is the Krozz Airborn analog or digital?

The Airborn is fully analog. Guitar Pedal X describes it as an Analog Psychedelic Flanger, and Delicious Audio says it will take you on a psychedelic journey on a fully analog circuit. Its core is a new-old-stock Matsushita MN3207 BBD chip, the kind of bucket-brigade device used in classic analog modulation pedals.

Can the Airborn do Electric Mistress and EVH-style flanging?

Guitar Pedal X's reviewer found that it covers Sparkly Electric Mistress, EVH Brown Sound, Jet Flanger and woozy sounds. That puts classic Electric Mistress-style filtered flanging and Van Halen-style jet sounds within reach of one pedal, alongside subtler, woozier textures.

How much does the Krozz Devices Airborn cost?

As of the April 2024 Guitar Pedal X review, the Airborn retailed for $249 on the Krozz Devices webstore in the US and £249 at FX Pedal Planet in the UK. It was also available at selected international dealers.

What does the Filter/Oscillator switch do?

Inside the pedal there is a small switch that locks (left) and unlocks (right) the oscillator. With the oscillator locked, the filter becomes static and the frequency range where it acts is set by the Range knob. Guitar Pedal X describes this as the internal Filter/Oscillator switch parking the LFO for comb-filter use.
