Line 6 EX-1

The Line 6 EX-1 is an expression pedal made by Line 6. An expression pedal sits in your signal chain's control path rather than its audio path: you rock it with your foot to change a parameter on another device, such as a delay mix, a pitch shift or a filter sweep, in real time while you play¹.

Line 6 lists the EX-1 as compatible with all Helix, HX, POD Go, and FBV family products, and with most other Line 6 products¹. That makes it a foot controller for players already inside the Line 6 ecosystem rather than a general-purpose pedal.

What it does

Rocking the treadle sends a control signal to the connected Line 6 device, which maps it to a parameter you assign. Beyond real-time parameter control, Guitar World's buying guide notes a second use: when combined with Line 6 multi-effects, the EX-1 can also work as a preset switcher, with one preset on the heel-down position and another on the heel-up position². So a single pedal can both sweep a parameter mid-song and jump you between two sounds.

Guitar World's reviewer was direct about where the EX-1 fits:

That verdict is aimed squarely at Line 6 owners. Players using other brands' gear would look to other expression pedals, since Line 6's compatibility claim covers its own products²¹.
