The LongAmp Deluxe Time Machine is an analog tape delay pedal in a silver enclosure, built around emulations of three classic tape echoes: the Binson Echorec, the Roland RE-201 Space Echo and the Maestro Echoplex EP-3. Pedal of the Day described its three modes as "emulating the best tones from three of the most revered and classic delays ever made"1. It sits in the wider field of delay pedals, but its two-delay design and momentary speed switch set it apart from a single-echo stompbox.
What it does
The pedal carries two Delays, and how they behave depends on the mode. In Binson mode, their repeats are combined; in RE-201 mode, they run in parallel. With both Delays maxed in Binson mode, 1200ms of delay time is available1.
A modulation toggle lets you add modulation onto either Delay 1 or Delay 2, with a middle position that turns it off completely1.
The second footswitch is a momentary switch that ramps up the delay time of Delay 2 when pressed down, and slows it back down when released. For a player, that means the kind of pitch-bending, speed-shifting effect you get from working a real tape machine's controls by hand, available mid-performance without touching a knob1.
What reviewers said
Pedal of the Day reviewed the pedal in March 2018 and came away impressed:
"the Deluxe Time Machine immediately lives up to its name as soon as you engage the bypass switch"1
The same review called it "another brilliant pedal for you today" and suggested "this silver gem will surely find its way into your heart and onto your pedalboard"1.
