The Mad Professor Milestone Handwired Germanium Fuzz is a handwired germanium fuzz pedal, announced with preorders in September 2026. Mad Professor describes it as a germanium fuzz inspired by vintage mixing consoles, reimagining the earliest fuzz sounds for the modern player1. It sits alongside the company's other fuzz designs such as the Mad Professor FUZZ32 in the broader field of Fuzz Pedals.
What the Milestone Fuzz does
The Milestone is a germanium fuzz built around two TO-5 type metal can germanium transistors, whose maker Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson could not identify, noting only that they "could be similar - or possibly 2Nx or ACYx" types1. Its circuit takes inspiration from vintage mixing consoles as well as the earliest fuzz sounds1.
Its controls are:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Volume | Output level |
| Fuzz | Fuzz amount |
| Bass | Two-band EQ, low band |
| Treble | Two-band EQ, high band |
The Bass and Treble controls form a two-band EQ, a feature germanium fuzzes do not always carry1.
The onboard transformer
The Milestone's most distinctive feature is a transformer onboard, described as a sort of pickup simulator. According to Guitar Pedal X, this means the pedal "can be placed more liberally" on a pedalboard, rather than needing a specific position in the chain1. That matters for germanium designs, which are often sensitive to what feeds them; players who use Buffer Pedals elsewhere on a board will recognize the concern.
"I cannot see any sign of a Bias control, not even an internal trimmer."
