The Blasar is a pedal from MAK Crazy Sound Technology, a maker Delicious Audio described as new when the pedal appeared. It is a reverb pedal with a polyphonic signal capture function, and the maker calls the effect a "Freeze-Verb": it captures and retains the sound of notes and chords, creating sound layers with a long sustain1. In that respect it sits apart from conventional Reverb Pedals, which wash a signal in ambience without holding it.
What it does
The capture function works across the whole fretboard at once, so chords as well as single notes can be held. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio described the range of what the pedal can produce1:
"with the help of a simple control unit it is possible to achieve from the background audio substrate to 'organ sound' with a soft attack"
At one end of that range the pedal supplies a background layer under your playing; at the other, a held chord takes on an organ-like character with a soft attack. The MIX knob balances the processed signal with the "frozen" signal, so the player sets how much of the captured layer sits against the live guitar1.
