The MAS Effects Mimir's Well is a digital guitar effects pedal that works like a small multi-effects unit: instead of one fixed effect, it lets you switch between 23 different patches, which MAS Effects describes as "pedals"1. Seven of those patches are built in, and the other 16 are your own choices, loaded onto the pedal before it ships1. The whole platform runs on the FV-1 DSP, a digital signal processor the maker calls "extremely popular"2.

The pedal is currently sold out in both of its finishes, Matte White (MW-1) and Midnight (MW-2), and the partial DIY kit version is sold out as well134. A couple of Midnight Edition pedals and a reduced-cost blemished Midnight Edition were also offered2.

A digital effects pedal built on the FV-1

The Mimir's Well is a digital pedal, not an analog one. MAS Effects describes it as an "FV-1 DSP Pedal Platform," meaning the pedal's sound comes entirely from programs running on the FV-1 chip rather than from analog gain stages or filters2. For a player, that means one box can cover many effect types at once, since each patch is a separate program.

The FV-1 is a chip many players will have met before, in both commercial pedals and DIY builds. MAS Effects also uses it in the Mimir's Horn, another digital effect pedal the maker describes as giving "extreme flexibility on the incredibly popular FV-1 DSP"25. The Mimir's Well differs from that pedal by being a patch-switching platform: rather than one effect with controls, it holds banks of complete patches you scroll through.

MAS Effects has produced several generations of the pedal. The newest ones have no screen bezel, use UV printed graphics rather than a sticker, and no longer have the pedal's name printed on the enclosure1. The maker states that whichever generation you receive, "you will receive the newest"1.

The pedal is also available to builders in pieces. The MAS Effects Mimir's Well Partial Kit is a partial DIY kit for building the pedal yourself, with a TFT screen and the FV-1, and its PCB comes with the surface-mounted FV-1 DSP IC pre-soldered67. The kit includes a 32.768 kHz crystal6. A bare PCB and a pre-cut, pre-drilled enclosure are sold separately for DIY builds8910.

Patches and banks

The patch count breaks down like this:

BankContentsSource
Bank 18 custom patches of your choosing2
Bank 28 custom patches of your choosing2
Bank 37 built-in effects2

Patch selection works in two layers: you first select the active bank, then choose between the patches within that bank2. When you order the pedal, you pick your 16 custom patches (the two banks of 8) to be preloaded into it2.

Extra patches and the bank builder

You are not limited to the 16 patches the pedal ships with. MAS Effects sells extra banks of patches at $1 per patch, which you load by swapping the internal EEPROMs211. The process works through the maker's bank builder:

  1. Choose your patches using the bank builder on the MAS Effects site11.
  2. Take the code the builder generates from the shopping cart at the bottom-right of the page11.
  3. Order the MAS Effects Bank of 8 Extra Patches for Mimir's Well, which comes on 2 EEPROMs11.

Because the Mimir's Well needs 2 EEPROMs, the maker points out that its generic MAS Effects Custom FV-1 EEPROM product is not the right one for this pedal; the separate bank-of-8 product is the one to order1213. The bank-of-8 product is currently sold out11.

Price and availability

The maker lists the pedal at a regular price of £331.00 and a sale price of £358.00, with tax included13. The Midnight finish is listed at £358.003. Those are the maker's own listed prices in GBP; no US dollar list price is given for the assembled pedal.

Everything in the current range is sold out as of October 2026: the assembled pedal in both finishes, the partial kit, and the bank of 8 extra patches1311. The Midnight Edition and blemished Midnight Edition pedals were offered as limited runs2.

The Mimir's Well, its partial kit, and its extra-patch banks are all listed as sold out. Builders looking for FV-1 patches should note that the generic Custom FV-1 EEPROM is a single-EEPROM product and is not intended for the Mimir's Well, which uses 2 EEPROMs12.

Questions

Is the MAS Effects Mimir's Well analog or digital?

It is a digital guitar effects pedal. MAS Effects describes it as powered by the FV-1 DSP, a digital signal processor that is widely used in DIY and commercial effects pedals. All of its patches run on this chip rather than analog circuitry.

How many patches does the Mimir's Well hold?

It holds 23 patches in total, organized as 3 banks: 2 banks of 8 custom patches you choose yourself, and 1 bank of 7 built-in effects. You select which bank is active, then choose between patches within that bank.

Can you buy extra patches for the Mimir's Well?

Yes. MAS Effects sells extra banks of 8 patches on 2 EEPROMs, priced at $1 per patch. You pick your patches with the bank builder on the MAS Effects site, then take the code from the shopping cart. The bank-of-8 product is currently sold out.

Is the Mimir's Well still available?

No. The assembled pedal is listed as sold out, in both the Matte White and Midnight finishes, and the partial DIY kit is sold out as well. A couple of Midnight Edition pedals and a reduced-cost blemished Midnight Edition were also offered.

What chip is the Mimir's Well based on?

It is based on the FV-1 DSP from Spin Semiconductor, a digital signal processor that MAS Effects calls extremely popular. The partial kit's PCB comes with the FV-1 DSP IC pre-soldered and includes a 32.768 kHz crystal.
