The MAS Effects StompFuzz is a small fuzz project, not a finished pedal. MAS Effects describes it as "a tiny, fun, and practical fuzz project that gives you a ton of tonal flexibility on top of a 3PDT foot switch"1. In other words, it is a build-it-yourself circuit: you buy the printed circuit board or a kit, solder it together, and end up with a working fuzz pedal switched by a standard 3PDT footswitch, the same switching arrangement most commercial true-bypass pedals use.

The circuit itself is a footswitch-mounted version of the maker's tiny fuzz line, with what MAS Effects calls "some extra bells and whistles" over the smaller builds2. Documentation and build information live on GitHub at github.com/mstratman/stompfuzz1.

What a 3PDT footswitch means for the build

The 3PDT footswitch is the part that makes this a stompbox rather than a bare circuit board. A 3PDT (triple-pole, double-throw) switch has enough contacts to route the guitar signal through the fuzz circuit when engaged and around it when bypassed, which is how true bypass works: with the pedal off, the signal passes from input jack to output jack without going through the circuit at all. That is the same switching design used in the majority of hand-built and commercial true-bypass pedals, so a completed StompFuzz behaves like a conventional fuzz pedal on a pedalboard, clicked in and out with your foot1.

The footswitch-mounted design is also what separates the StompFuzz from the rest of MAS Effects' tiny fuzz projects. Where the smaller builds in the line mount their switching differently, the StompFuzz builds the circuit around the 3PDT switch itself, which is where the maker says the extra tonal flexibility comes from12.

Versions, kits and prices

The StompFuzz is sold in several combinations, selectable from a drop-down on the product page4. The bare board is the cheapest entry point, and the kits add parts as the price climbs. Prices below are as listed by MAS Effects on 26 October 2026, in GBP as the maker states them; tax is included and shipping is calculated at checkout35.

VersionPrice (GBP)Status (26 Oct 2026)

SMD Kit (no switch) + PCB£9.003Listed3

SMD Kit + PCB + Toggle SwitchSee listing3In stock3

The main product page itself was marked sold out on 26 October 20261, so availability is mixed: the standalone listing is out of stock while some kit variants remain in stock through the drop-down options3.

The SMD kits use surface mount components, which are smaller than the through-hole parts of a typical beginner build. If you are new to soldering, the no-switch and toggle-switch versions still require the same SMD work; only the switching hardware differs.

What is in each version

The differences between the versions come down to how much of the pedal arrives in the box:

  • PCB only: just the printed circuit board. You source every component, the switch, jacks and enclosure yourself.
  • SMD Kit (no switch) + PCB: the board plus the surface mount parts to populate it. You supply your own switching.
  • SMD Kit + PCB + Foot Switch: adds the 3PDT footswitch, the switching arrangement the project is designed around1.
  • SMD Kit + PCB + Toggle Switch: the same kit with a toggle switch in place of the footswitch, a cheaper hardware option if you plan to switch the fuzz on and off by hand or wire your own footswitch later.
  • 1 StompFuzz PCB + 3 PicoFuzz PCBs: a bundle that pairs one StompFuzz board with three boards for the smaller PicoFuzz project3.

StompFuzz versus PicoFuzz

The StompFuzz is closely related to the MAS Effects PicoFuzz. The PicoFuzz is the simpler of the two: MAS Effects positions it as "a great opportunity to learn surface mount (SMD) soldering"5, and sells its PCBs in packs of three5. The maker's own PicoFuzz listings point buyers toward "the more versatile StompFuzz"672, which is the 3PDT-mounted version with the extra features2. The PicoFuzz was also sold out as of 26 October 20266, and its documentation is hosted separately at github.com/mstratman/picofuzz6.

For a first build, the two projects ask different things of the builder. The PicoFuzz is presented as a great opportunity to learn surface mount (SMD) soldering. The StompFuzz, meanwhile, is a 3PDT-mounted version of the tiny fuzz with some extra bells and whistles, built on a 3PDT foot switch, which makes it a step up from a desktop experiment toward a pedal you can stomp521.

For players who want a fuzz without soldering, MAS Effects also offers finished tiny fuzz pedals such as the Tiny Fuzz line, and the StompFuzz product page suggests looking at the PicoFuzz and other options in the maker's SMD fuzz collection1.

Questions

Is the MAS Effects StompFuzz a finished pedal or a DIY project?

It is a DIY project, not a finished pedal. MAS Effects describes the StompFuzz as a tiny, fun and practical fuzz project, sold as a printed circuit board or as a kit you solder yourself. The SMD kit uses surface mount components, so it is a build for players comfortable with small-part soldering.

What is the difference between the StompFuzz and the PicoFuzz?

The StompFuzz is a 3PDT-footswitch-mounted version of the tiny fuzz with some extra bells and whistles, while the PicoFuzz is a smaller, simpler build that MAS Effects positions as a great opportunity to learn surface mount soldering. MAS Effects' own listings call the StompFuzz the more versatile of the two.

Is the StompFuzz still available?

As of late October 2026 the main StompFuzz product page is marked sold out, and the PicoFuzz is sold out too. Some kit variants, including the SMD kit with footswitch and the kit with a toggle switch, were still listed as in stock at the same time.

Does the StompFuzz kit include a footswitch?

It depends on the version you choose. The SMD Kit + PCB + Foot Switch version includes a 3PDT footswitch, while the SMD Kit (no switch) + PCB version leaves you to supply your own. A kit with a toggle switch instead of a footswitch is also offered.

Where can I find the StompFuzz manual?

MAS Effects hosts the StompFuzz documentation on GitHub at github.com/mstratman/stompfuzz. The PicoFuzz has its own documentation at github.com/mstratman/picofuzz. Both links are given on the maker's product pages.
