The YES DIY is the do-it-yourself kit version of the YES! gated fuzz from Mask Audio Electronics, a maker whose main line of fuzz pedals the kit is drawn from. The assembled pedal itself is now discontinued, and the DIY version is what remains for players who want the circuit and are comfortable with a soldering iron1.
Controls
The kit carries the same control set as the pedal it is based on, described by the maker as follows1:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| MORE | Traditional gain control. The gate opens up the more clockwise you go. |
| LOUD | Master volume. Lots on tap. |
| Toggle | Takes the beaks off and allows the circuit to pumble itself. Makes the octave more apparent and allows for mosquito sounds. |
The MORE knob works as a conventional gain control, with the pedal's gating behavior tied to it: turning it clockwise opens the gate further. The LOUD control is the master volume, and the maker notes there is plenty of level available from it1.
The toggle is the character control. In the maker's own words:
"Toggle - takes the beaks off and allows the circuit to pumble itself. Makes the octave more apparent and allows"
Where it sits in the range
The YES DIY is one of several fuzzes Mask Audio Electronics has built around the YES circuit. The assembled YES! is discontinued, and the maker has since collaborated on the STOP! Dual Fuzz, which combines the YES circuit with the Abracadaver circuit in one enclosure1. Players interested in the finished-pedal route can look at other fuzzes in the maker's range on the Fuzz Pedals page.
