The Cosmonaut V2 Void Reverb/Delay is a reverb and delay pedal from Matthews Effects, announced in October 2018 as an updated iteration of the company's Cosmonaut reverb pedal. It carries three reverb/delay algorithms, a 100% wet mix control, an analog dry signal path and an alt control, and it was priced at $199.99 at launch1. Matthews describes the pedal's three spacy, cascading reverb/delay algorithms as making for an altogether memorable playing experience2.
The three algorithms
The V2 added three new algorithms over the original Cosmonaut. MusicRadar's Michael Astley-Brown named them as Luna 2, a "haunted" modulated reverb; Sputnik, which runs modulation into a reflective plate reverb; and Vostok 1, a tape analog delay3. Guitar World separately described Sputnik as a classic modulated plate reverb1.
| Algorithm | What it is |
|---|---|
| Luna 2 | A "haunted" modulated reverb3 |
| Sputnik | Modulation running into a reflective plate reverb, described by Guitar World as a classic modulated plate reverb13 |
| Vostok 1 | A tape analog delay3 |
In a Sweetwater demo video from April 2019, sales engineer Casey Gerlach walked through the pedal's voices, saying "the Luna is a dark delay" and describing "the vast which is a kind of warmer tape style delay"4.
Controls and features
Beyond the three algorithms, the V2 brought several changes to how the pedal is set up and used3:
- 100% wet mix control, reported by Guitar World and MusicRadar13
- Analog dry signal path, so the dry signal stays analog while the wet side is mixed in3
- Alt control, built from three identical knobs on the top row3
- Tails or hard-cut bypass, with tails as the default and holding both footswitches cutting the reverb3
The alt control is the most unusual of these. Guitar World explained that it allows the user, via three knobs on the "top" row that have been duplicated, to jump between different sounds on the same reverb or two different reverbs entirely via toggle switches at the top of the pedal1. MusicRadar called the arrangement "alt control: three identical knobs"3.
Power and bypass
The pedal draws 100mA, and MusicRadar noted that the pedal will exert less of a strain on your power supply than before, with a 100mA current draw3. Guitar World reported the same 100mA power draw1.
Bypass is buffered rather than true bypass: tails is the default mode, and holding both footswitches cuts the reverb for a hard-cut bypass3. Players who prefer reverb tails to stop instantly will want to know this before mounting the pedal on a board.
Where it came from
Matthews Effects lists The Cosmonaut V2 Void Reverb/Delay as an available reverb/delay pedal with a list price of $199.991.

Questions
What algorithms does the Cosmonaut V2 have?
The Cosmonaut V2 carries three reverb and delay algorithms. MusicRadar named them as Luna 2, a haunted modulated reverb; Sputnik, which runs modulation into a reflective plate reverb; and Vostok 1, a tape analog delay. In a Sweetwater demo video, sales engineer Casey Gerlach described the Luna as a dark delay and the Vast as a warmer tape style delay.
Does the Cosmonaut V2 have a 100% wet setting?
Yes. Guitar World reported that the pedal has a 100% wet mix control, and MusicRadar listed the same control alongside an analog dry signal path, so the dry signal can stay analog while the wet side runs fully wet.
Does the Cosmonaut V2 offer trails bypass?
Yes. Guitar World reported an option of either tail or hard-cut bypass mode. MusicRadar described it as a buffered tails or bypass mode, with tails as the default and holding both footswitches to cut the reverb.
How much current does the Cosmonaut V2 draw?
Both Guitar World and MusicRadar reported a 100mA current draw at launch, with MusicRadar noting that the pedal puts less strain on a power supply than its predecessor.
What is the difference between the Cosmonaut and the Cosmonaut V2?
The Cosmonaut V2 is an updated iteration of Matthews Effects' reverb pedal, adding three new algorithms (Luna 2, Sputnik and Vostok 1), a 100% wet mix control, an analog dry signal path, an alt control and a choice of tails or hard-cut bypass, with a 100mA current draw.
What does the alt control do on the Cosmonaut V2?
The alt control lets the user jump between different sounds on the same reverb or between two different reverbs entirely, using toggle switches at the top of the pedal. Guitar World described the top row as three knobs that have been duplicated, and MusicRadar called it three identical knobs.
