The Maxon OOD-9 Organic Overdrive is an overdrive pedal in Maxon's 9-Series line, and it is sold out. Its circuit traces back to the OD880 Overdrive/Soft Distortion pedal Maxon introduced in 1977, a circuit the company describes as "extremely transparent and tube-sounding." A 4558 IC chip generates the pedal's more modern tones, which Maxon says are "optimized to produce higher gain, wicked low midrange and a searing British-style crunch"1. Maxon also makes related 9-Series drives such as the Maxon OD-9 and the Maxon VOP-9 Vintage Overdrive Pro.
What it does
The OOD-9 sits between a clean boost and a distortion pedal. Maxon's US distributor, Godlyke Distributing, describes it as working "great as an amp booster," pushing an amplifier's front end harder without replacing its core tone2. At higher gain settings, the 4558 chip's voicing leans toward a low-mid-heavy British-style crunch, in the manner of a pushed UK amplifier1.
A charge-pump circuit regulates the power supply. Kirkland noted it "maintains a true nine volts and consistent tones at all times," a feature new to the OOD-9 and its sibling OSD-9 in the 9-Series line12.
Chassis and availability
The pedal is housed in what Godlyke calls "Maxon's indestructible, industry standard 9-Series chassis," the same enclosure used across the 9-Series range2.
Godlyke's product page listed the OOD-9 as sold out as of October 2026. Maxon ended its partnership with Godlyke, its longtime North American distributor, in 2021, so availability in the United States has been limited since then.
