Maxon SM9Pro+ Super Metal Distortion

The Maxon SM9Pro+ Super Metal Distortion is a distortion pedal aimed at metal players, made by Maxon. It sits in the distortion lane alongside other Maxon dirt boxes such as the Maxon SD-9 Sonic Distortion and the Maxon Distortion Master, and it belongs to the broader family covered on the Distortion Pedals type page¹.

What it does

The pedal is a dedicated metal distortion: it takes a guitar signal and produces the high-gain distortion voicing the Super Metal name refers to. Guitar World reviewed the pedal when it was new, in a video presented by Paul Riario, under the title "Maxon SM9Pro+ Super Metal Distortion Pedal"¹.

Status and availability

The SM9Pro+ was a new product at the time of the Guitar World review in October 2011¹. Players comparing it today may also come across the related Maxon SM-9 Pro+ and the Maxon ST-9 Pro+ Super Tube, which share the Pro+ naming within Maxon's range.
