The Menatone Dirty B Overdrive is a low to medium gain overdrive pedal, described by Delicious Audio's Christopher Scapelliti as "a fantastically dynamic low-medium gain OD". It was previously known as the Dirty Blonde, and the name change was noted when Delicious Audio updated its product page in October 20211. Like other Menatone drives such as the Red Snapper 4 Knob PTP and the Blue Collar, it sits in the overdrive camp rather than the higher-gain distortion territory.
What it does
The pedal is based on blonde tolexed American amps from the early 1960s. Delicious Audio describes its character as one that "recalls the blonde tolex amps of the early 60's, with a big round bottom end, twangy sweet top and singing midrange"1.
Two controls shape that character:
The PUSH control is the pedal's personality switch. As Delicious Audio put it: "With the PUSH control this sweet girl can turn into a raging bitch in no time, adding a huge midrange punch and roar"1.
Who it suits
Delicious Audio suggests the pedal, under its earlier name, "is perfect for country, blues, rockabilly, or any other rootsy style"1. Players after more gain and compression from the same maker can look at the Blue Collar Mini, which debuted as a higher-gain, more compressed take on the Red Snapper formula.
