The Fish Factory Vertical is a Menatone dual overdrive pedal: two of the company's overdrive circuits, the Blue Collar and the Red Snapper, built into one small enclosure. Menatone describes the Fish Factory as "the ultimate compact tone machine," and the Vertical version is set up with all the jacks on top to save pedalboard room1. Guitar Pedal X lists it among compact, stackable dual overdrives, describing it as a Red Snapper plus Blue Collar combination2.

What it does

Each half of the pedal is a four-knob version of its original circuit. Guitar Pedal X notes that the Red Snapper side carries controls for Volume, Gain, Hi-Cut and Bite4. The Blue Collar side is the same circuit Menatone sells on its own, and the company's product page describes the pedal as "the same Fish Factory with the 4 knob versions of the Blue Collar and the Red Snapper in one box"3.

The Vertical version adds an effect order switch. Menatone explains: "The effect order switch allows you to change the order of the Snapper and Collar to best suit your needs."3 That means you can run the lower-gain Red Snapper into the higher-gain Blue Collar, or the reverse, without re-patching cables. The new version "also includes an effect order switch an all the mojo parts build," according to Menatone's Fish Factory page1.

Layout and build

The Vertical layout is aimed at tight pedalboards. Menatone states: "All of this in a small box with input, output and dc jacks located on top."1 The company's product page repeats the intent: "set up with all the jacks on top to save pedalboard room"3.

The enclosure is hand finished. "The painting style makes every pedal unique, all will look a little different," Menatone notes, so the artwork on any given unit will not match another exactly3.

The pedal takes 9 to 18 volts and has no battery compartment3. Plan a dedicated supply output for it on your board.

Menatone sells both circuits separately as well. The standalone versions of what the Fish Factory Vertical houses, and a compact Blue Collar Mini, are all in the range. The standard Fish Factory is the non-vertical version of the same two-circuit idea13.
