Molten Voltage CONTROL SYNC is a MIDI Clock synchronizer for classic effects that have a remote Tap Input jack. Many older delays, tremolos and similar pedals let you control their tap tempo from a footswitch; CONTROL SYNC takes that same tap input and drives it from MIDI Clock instead, so the effect can follow the tempo of a MIDI setup rather than a foot tap. Molten Voltage puts it plainly: "Any effects that have a jack for remote Tap Input ... can be synced to MIDI Clock with [CTL-SYNC]."1
What it does and how it connects
The idea is simple: the pedal sits between your MIDI rig and a classic effect, translating MIDI Clock into the tap pulses the effect already understands. Connection needs no special interface or adapter. As Molten Voltage puts it, "A simple 1/4\" cable from CONTROL SYNC to your classic effect is all that's needed!"1
Optical isolation
CONTROL SYNC's outputs are optically isolated. Molten Voltage explains the reason: "CONTROL SYNC uses optically isolated outputs to keep the analog and digital circuits completely separate."1 For a player, that means the digital side talking MIDI Clock and the analog side of the connected effect stay apart, which is the point of bridging the two worlds in one box.
