The Mosky Accurate Drive is an analog overdrive pedal with a built-in noise gate, made by Mosky Audio. The gate is there, in the maker's words, "for retaining shape and punch at higher gain," which is the usual problem with high-gain overdrive: as gain rises, so does the noise floor between notes. Mosky lists it as a "Guitar Bass Effect Pedal Overdrive Noise Gate and Four Models With True Bypass," so it works for guitar and bass and switches with true bypass.12

What it does to your sound

Mosky describes the Accurate Drive as able to "take any set-up, both tube and digital, and turn it into the perfect modern metal rig with its precise tonal carving controls."12 In other words, the maker positions it as a high-gain overdrive for modern metal tones rather than a mild blues-style boost. It is an overdrive, not a distortion or fuzz unit, so it sits in the same family as other overdrive pedals, but with the gate built in rather than carried as a separate noise gate pedal.

Controls

The pedal keeps its control set focused on high-gain shaping:

  • Bright: a bright knob instead of a conventional tone control, which RockBoard's PedalPedia says is crafted "for retaining clear singing tone."1
  • Attack: an attack control to tailor the pedal to your rig. Mosky describes it this way: "Towards the left is more of a lower mids punch, and to the right can get very defined and pick-y. Left is a little more oldschool and thick, right is very modern and clear."2

The Attack control is the tonal carving part of the design: it shifts the character of the drive between thicker, lower-mid weight and a tighter, more pick-defined modern response, so the pedal can be matched to whether your amp and guitar lean warm or bright21.

Power

The Accurate Drive runs on 9V DC with a center-negative plug, drawing 100mA.1 Mosky lists an optional 9VDC AC adapter with negative tips and recommends a regulated supply.2

At 100mA, the Accurate Draw draws more current than many compact overdrives. Check the rating on your power supply or daisy chain before adding it to a board.

Where it comes from

Both Mosky's own product page and RockBoard's PedalPedia state that the Accurate Drive is based on the Horizen Devices Precision Drive.12 The Precision Drive is a high-gain overdrive known for pairing gain with a built-in gate, and the Accurate Drive follows the same formula in an analog circuit: drive, attack shaping, a bright-style treble control, and noise gating in one box.

Questions

Is the Mosky Accurate Drive analog or digital?

The Accurate Drive is an analog pedal. RockBoard's PedalPedia lists its circuit type as analog, and the pedal is described as an overdrive with a built-in noise gate and true bypass. That makes it a straightforward analog gain stage you can place on a pedalboard like any conventional overdrive, with the gate built into the same circuit rather than added as a separate pedal.

What power supply does the Mosky Accurate Drive need?

The pedal runs on 9V DC with a center-negative plug, and Mosky lists an optional 9VDC AC adapter with negative tips, recommending a regulated supply. RockBoard lists the current draw as 100mA, which is higher than many simple overdrives, so a supply or daisy chain rated for at least that output is worth using.

Is the Mosky Accurate Drive meant for metal?

Mosky describes the Accurate Drive as able to take any setup, tube or digital, and turn it into a modern metal rig with its precise tonal carving controls. It is an overdrive rather than a dedicated distortion pedal, but the maker positions it squarely at high-gain modern playing, with the noise gate helping keep tight, punchy tone at higher gain settings.

Which pedal is the Accurate Drive based on?

Both Mosky's own product page and RockBoard's PedalPedia state that the Accurate Drive is based on the Horizen Devices Precision Drive. The design carries over the same general idea: an overdrive aimed at modern high-gain use, with controls for shaping attack and treble and a noise gate built in to keep the sound tight.
