The Musicom Lab EFX Lite 62M is a floor-based switching system: a controller that sits on your board and turns groups of pedals on and off, and sends MIDI messages, so that one stomp recalls a whole song's setup. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes it as "the ultimate floor-based switching system," a compact unit with 6 fully programmable loops, 2 function switches and a MIDI foot controller1. It is a digital circuit design1.

Presets and MIDI messages

The EFX Lite 62M holds 248 memory locations, configured as 62 banks of 4 presets, plus a global preset1. In practice that means each of the four presets in a bank can hold a different combination of loops, switches and MIDI settings, and you step through banks and presets with the footswitches.

On the MIDI side, the unit can transmit 6 MIDI Program Change messages on 6 MIDI channels and 16 MIDI Control Change messages on an appointed MIDI channel1. That lets one preset change patches on several MIDI-equipped pedals at once while also switching the analog loops. There is also one continuous controller port (XPDL), which can be programmed with a designated MIDI channel and controller number, for use with an expression pedal1.

Buffer and signal path

The EFX Lite 62M has a low-noise, high quality buffer to prevent the loss of guitar signal1. The input buffer can be bypassed for Hi-Z input pedals such as fuzzes1, which matters because a buffered front end can change how a fuzz circuit responds.

Power

The unit runs on 12V DC, center negative, and draws 180mA1, so it needs its own suitable supply.

The EFX Lite 62M is discontinued, so it is no longer in current production from Musicom Lab.

The English manual is available as a PDF from Musicom Lab's site1.

Questions

Is the Musicom Lab EFX Lite 62M discontinued?

Yes. The EFX Lite 62M is listed as a discontinued product on Musicom Lab's product page, so it is no longer in current production. Units may still be found second-hand or from remaining stock at dealers, but players should not expect new units or ongoing production from the maker.

Is the Musicom Lab EFX Lite 62M analog or digital?

The EFX Lite 62M is a digital circuit, in the sense that its switching control circuitry is digital. It is a floor-based switching system rather than a sound-shaping effect: it routes your pedals in and out of the signal path with its loops and sends MIDI messages, while your guitar signal itself passes through its buffer and loops.

Can the input buffer on the EFX Lite 62M be turned off for fuzz pedals?

Yes. The EFX Lite 62M has a low-noise, high quality buffer to prevent loss of guitar signal, but the input buffer can be bypassed for Hi-Z input pedals such as fuzzes. That matters because buffered inputs can make fuzz pedals sound dull or gated, so being able to switch the buffer out keeps those pedals happy.

What power supply does the EFX Lite 62M need?

The EFX Lite 62M runs on 12V DC, center negative, and draws 180mA. Because of the voltage and current requirements, it needs its own appropriate supply rather than sharing a low-current daisy chain with standard pedals.

How many presets does the EFX Lite 62M hold?

It has 248 memory locations, configured as 62 banks of 4 presets, plus a global preset. Each preset stores the state of the six loops, the function switches and the MIDI messages, so a whole song's pedal and MIDI setup can be recalled with one stomp.

Where can I download the EFX Lite 62M manual?

The English manual is available as a PDF download from Musicom Lab at musicomlab.com, linked from the product's page. It covers programming the loops, presets, function switches and MIDI settings in detail.
