Mythos Herculean V2

The Mythos Herculean V2 is an overdrive pedal announced by Mythos Pedals in 2018 as an update to the standard Herculean model¹. Mythos describes its range as "tones ranging from slightly dirty boost all the way to thick D-style sounds," meaning it can sit in front of a clean amp as a light push or drive it into the kind of thick, touch-sensitive overdrive associated with D-style circuits¹.

What it does

The pedal's single gain control is described by Mythos as a "Musical gain control that goes from slight dirty boost to cranked amp style sounds"¹. At the low end it works as a boost with a little grit on it; turned up, it pushes into fuller overdrive territory. For players comparing overdrive types, it sits in the same broad family as other overdrive pedals, but with the D-style voicing Mythos describes rather than a Tube Screamer style mid hump.

Build

Mythos built the V2 with full size through hole components, the larger style of parts that can be easier to service than surface mount electronics, and the pedal is assembled by hand in Nashville, Tennessee¹.

The Herculean family

The V2 is the single-channel version of the Herculean circuit. Mythos later expanded the idea into the Mythos Herculean Deluxe, a dual-channel pedal that pairs an updated Herculean circuit with a modified Runestone circuit. The Deluxe adds internal Clipping Switches so the player can "choose clipping varieties for each side," with the Runestone side offering both soft and hard clipping options, plus a Clarity control for the Herculean channel's highs³⁴.
