The Old Blood Noise Endeavors BL-82 is a chorus pedal from the Oklahoma boutique maker, launched in April 2023 as what Guitar World called a "Variable Clock Effector"1. Where a conventional chorus gives you fixed rate and depth knobs, the BL-82 puts almost everything on a single diagonal slider called Clock, which sweeps the pedal from a shimmering chorus at one end to a long, deeply modulated delay at the other. Old Blood Noise describes it as a chorus that "challenges the definition of chorus, managing to be both lush and grimy"2.

The maker's page currently lists the BL-82 as Sold Out in its Retirement Black colorway, so it is not available new at the time of writing2.

What the BL-82 does: chorus that turns into delay

Under the hood, the BL-82 runs two delay lines modulated by opposite synchronized LFOs (low-frequency oscillators) combined in parallel, which is what produces the swirling, three-dimensional modulation6. Delicious Audio calls the pedal "an ode to delay time," because the Clock slider varies the slight delay at the heart of the modulated sound, and that one change reshapes everything at once: the effect's depth and speed, and the quality of the delay itself, which degrades at longer settings3.

At the top of the slider's range you get what the maker describes as "a shimmering three-dimensional mono chorus"; at the bottom, "a long, deeply modulated delay, with many textures in between"2. Guitar.com noted that because of how the circuit behaves, the BL-82 sits somewhere between chorus and flanger rather than being a straight take on either6. Old Blood Noise itself said the pedal seeks to unapologetically:

"tear apart the common definition of a chorus pedal."

The controls: Clock slider, Feedback, Mix and Volume

The BL-82 has four controls: three knobs and the central Clock slider. Gearnews called the slider "the main standout control"5.

ControlWhat it does
Clock (slider)Affects the timing of the entire system, moving from fast and clean to slow and degraded, and introducing noise as it reaches the bottom7
FeedbackEnhances the intensity of the chorus, or increases the amount of delay repeats at high Clock settings2
MixSets the effect blend from 100% dry to 100% wet2
VolumeSets overall volume2

The Clock slider is the one doing the heavy lifting. According to Guitar World, the speed and depth of the LFOs, as well as the delay line time, are all adjusted by that central slider1. Delicious Audio points out that a control named Clock is rarely found on choruses, and that it affects at once the effect's depth and speed but also the quality of the delay, which "tends to degrade at longer settings"3. That degradation is part of the design rather than a fault: it is how the pedal earns the "grimy" half of the maker's own description2.

A single soft-touch footswitch engages or bypasses the effect, with true bypass so the dry signal is untouched when the pedal is off2.

Power: 9V DC, 110mA

The BL-82 requires a 9V DC center negative power supply with a 2.1mm jack, capable of supplying 110mA, and the supply is not included2. There is no battery option, so it needs a spot on a powered pedalboard or a dedicated adapter. At 110mA it draws more than a simple analog boost but well within what a typical isolated supply's 100mA-plus outputs can handle.

The input and output jack sockets, along with the power input, are side-mounted rather than top-mounted. Gearnews' reviewer would have preferred top-mounted jacks, so factor the side placement into your pedalboard layout if you pick one up used5.

The BL line and the Retirement Black edition

The BL-82 belongs to Old Blood Noise's BL line, a series of compact pedals built around the same slider-driven layout27. Guitar World noted that the BL-82 Chorus follows the company's "similarly mind-bending" BL-44 Reverse, and Gearnews reported that it is related to the earlier BL-4 Clock Reverse Effector in terms of layout15. The BL-44 Reverse carried the same four-control format of Mix, Volume, Speed and a Clock Slider, and like the BL-82 it was offered in a Retirement Black colorway alongside a standard finish89.

The enclosure art on both the BL-44 and the BL-82 is an original painting by Brandy M. Patterson of Manchester, New Hampshire23. Guitar.com described the BL-82's enclosure as a "pedalboard friendly size"6.

The BL-82's own status is Sold Out on the maker's page2. Its sibling fared the same: Delicious Audio reported in 2026 that "OBNE killed the BL-44," so the BL line's slider-era pedals have been retiring one by one10.

What reviewers said

Coverage at launch was largely descriptive, since the pedal's premise invited explanation. Gearnews' reviewer found the demos gave "a good indication of what to expect from this unconventional chorus effect," while separately wishing for top-mounted jacks5. Guitar.com highlighted the variable clock control that shifts "between shimmering chorus and chaotic modulated delays," and noted the pedal's position between chorus and flanger territory6. Delicious Audio framed it as a boutique American take on the modulation circuit, with the Clock slider as its distinguishing feature3.

On price, the maker's page lists $179.002. At launch, UK coverage put it at £189 GP6, and Gearnews later listed it at $199.00 / £183.00 / 209.00€ at Thomann in July 202311, with a 2025 buying guide still citing 209 euros at Thomann12. The figures differ because they come from different dates and retailers; the maker's own current figure is the $179.00 list price.

Questions

Is the Old Blood Noise BL-82 analog?

Yes. RockBoard's PedalPedia lists the BL-82 Chorus as an analog circuit. That fits its design: two delay lines modulated by opposite synchronized LFOs combined in parallel, with the timing of everything set by one slider rather than by digital modeling.

Is the BL-82 true bypass?

Yes. Old Blood Noise Endeavors fits the BL-82 with a soft-touch bypass footswitch for true bypass and minimal switch noise, so your dry signal passes through untouched when the effect is off. Guitar.com's launch coverage also noted the soft-touch bypass switching.

Is the BL-82 discontinued?

The maker's product page lists the BL-82 as Sold Out in its Retirement Black colorway, so it is not currently available new. Its sibling the BL-44 Reverse was reported discontinued by Delicious Audio in 2026, and the BL-82 appears to have gone the same way.

Where are the jacks on the BL-82?

The input and output jack sockets are side-mounted, along with the power input. Gearnews' reviewer would have preferred top-mounted jacks for pedalboard layout, a matter of taste worth knowing before you plan a board around one bought used.

How much power does the BL-82 Chorus need?

It requires a 9V DC center negative power supply with a 2.1mm jack, capable of supplying 110mA. The supply is not included, and there is no battery option, so you will need a pedalboard power supply or a dedicated adapter.
