The One Control Anodized Brown Distortion 4K is a distortion pedal built as a four-knob version of One Control's original Anodized Brown Distortion, known as the ADB. For the 4K, designer Björn took the original distortion circuit back to the bench and added EQ controls with complementary circuit modifications, giving the pedal what the maker describes as an enhanced ability to dial it into a wider variety of amplifiers1.
The original Anodized Brown was Björn's effort to make a distortion pedal with the dynamics and touch sensitivity of the great amps, and One Control calls it one of its most popular distortion pedals1. Björn described the original ADB's character as:
"A tight, fat low end. Free from any artificial treble buzz. A sufficiently solid and organic sound, long-lasting sustain that fades out in a natural way"
What the 4K changes
The original Anodized Brown Distortion is a simpler pedal. The 4K keeps its distortion circuit but moves to four knobs, adding Mid and Treble so the tone can be shaped against whatever amp it feeds1. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson lists the control set as Gain, Volume, Mid and Treble2.
