The One Control Rebel Red Distortion 4K is a distortion pedal and the four-knob version of the original Rebel Red Distortion (RRD). The maker designed the circuit for tones from older 70s and 80s UK-based tube amps modded in Southern California, describing it as delivering "JMP and JCM era flavors with perhaps a little Josè touch to goose the gain to new levels of dynamic compression and dist"1. It sits among One Control's other 4K-series drives, such as the Dyna Red Distortion 4K and the Anodized Brown Distortion 4K.
One Control's product page listed the Rebel Red Distortion 4K as sold out as of 26 October 20261.
What it does
The 4K model's change over the original is a fourth knob. The maker says the new RRD4K adds an "innovative 'Drive' control to allow players to effectively control the pre-gain" staging within the pedal1. The pedal carries four controls, which Guitar Pedal X listed in its 2024 roundup of new distortion pedals as "Controls - Volume, Distortion, Treble, Drive"2.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Volume | Output level |
| Distortion | Amount of distortion |
| Treble | Treble emphasis |
| Drive | Pre-gain staging within the pedal1 |
According to the maker, the Drive control makes the RRD4K "a much more versatile model that retains the thick lower mids of the original with enhanced treble emphasis," covering a range from ragged tube overdrive to hard rock and metal dynamics1. For players weighing it against other gain stages, it belongs to the broader field of distortion pedals, distinct from overdrive pedals and fuzz pedals.
