The Oscillator Devices Trash Panda is a MIDI controllable expression pedal splitter series: plug in your expression pedal and control up to four effects devices with expression pedal or CV inputs1. It comes in two versions, the Dual with two outputs and the Quad with four, both hand-built in Germany21. For a player with several pedals that accept expression or CV, it turns one physical expression pedal into a MIDI-switchable multi-output controller.
What it does
The Trash Panda sits between your expression pedal and the pedals you want to control. One expression pedal input feeds two outputs on the Dual or four on the Quad, and each output can be individually switched between Expression and CV mode1. That makes it useful in a mixed rig: a standard expression pedal signal can go to one device while a control voltage goes to another, all from the same pedal under your foot.
Each output can also be individually inverted to swap heel and toe positions, on the Dual as on the Quad21. The Quad adds per-output tapers: each output can have various tapers like inverted, logarithmic or reverse logarithmic1. In practice that means the same physical pedal sweep can behave differently on each connected device, matched to how each one responds.
Dual and Quad compared
| Trash Panda Dual | Trash Panda Quad | |
|---|---|---|
| Outputs | 21 | 41 |
| Expression input | Yes1 | Yes1 |
| MIDI thru | No1 | Yes, latency-free1 |
| Adjustable range | Yes1 | Yes1 |
| Per-output inversion | Yes1 | Yes1 |
| Per-output tapers | Inverted, logarithmic, reverse logarithmic1 | |
| Operating modes | Manual Mode and Preset Mode1 |
The Quad carries the larger feature set: it offers two main operating modes, Manual Mode and Preset Mode1, and its MIDI Thru socket is latency-free, so it can pass MIDI along the chain to another device1. The Dual keeps the core splitting behavior, per-output inversion and adjustable range, but has no MIDI thru1. A player who needs to daisy-chain MIDI onward would look at the Quad; a player who just needs two controlled outputs from one pedal has the smaller unit.
The Dual has no MIDI thru socket1. If the Trash Panda sits mid-chain in your MIDI wiring, the Quad is the version that passes MIDI through.
MIDI wiring and compatibility
The MIDI sockets are assigned according to the official MIDI specification of MIDI TRS using MIDI TRS Type A, the convention Oscillator Devices says is used by pedals from Boss or Wampler, and the Trash Panda is compatible with Morningstar MIDI TRS connections1. TRS MIDI carries MIDI over a 1/4-inch cable, and because Type A and Type B assign the tip and ring differently, matching the standard across a rig avoids silent MIDI lines.

Questions
How many effects can the Trash Panda control?
It depends on the version. The Trash Panda Dual has two outputs and the Trash Panda Quad has four, so the Quad can control up to four effects devices from a single expression pedal, with each output switchable between expression pedal and CV mode. Both versions take one expression pedal in and split it across their outputs, so a player with several MIDI-capable pedals can control them all from one pedal under MIDI control.
Does the Trash Panda Dual have MIDI thru?
No. The Trash Panda Dual does not have a MIDI thru socket. The Trash Panda Quad does, and on the Quad the MIDI Thru socket is described by Oscillator Devices as latency-free. A player who needs to pass MIDI on to another device in the chain would need the Quad, or would need to arrange the chain so the Dual sits at the end of the MIDI line.
Can each Trash Panda output switch between expression and CV?
Yes. On both the Dual and the Quad, each output can be individually switched between Expression and CV mode. That means one output can feed a pedal that expects a standard expression pedal signal while another feeds a device that takes control voltage, all from the same physical expression pedal.
Where is the Trash Panda made?
Oscillator Devices develops and hand-builds the Trash Panda in Germany. The company's product pages describe the series as developed and hand-built by Oscillator Devices in Germany, and the Trash Panda Dual is listed as shipping in 3 to 5 days.
Which MIDI TRS standard does the Trash Panda use?
The Trash Panda assigns its MIDI sockets according to the official MIDI specification for MIDI TRS, using MIDI TRS Type A. Oscillator Devices notes this is the same convention used by pedals from Boss or Wampler, and says the Trash Panda is compatible with Morningstar MIDI TRS connections. That matters when wiring a TRS MIDI cable, because Type A and Type B assign tip and ring differently.
