The Oscillator Devices Trash Panda Dual is a MIDI controllable expression pedal splitter. Plug in your expression pedal and it splits the signal to two effects devices with expression pedal or CV inputs, so one pedal can control two expression destinations at once1.
What it does and how it is controlled
The Dual's job is simple: one expression pedal in, two controlled devices out. Each output can be individually switched between Expression and CV mode, and each output can be individually inverted to swap heel and toe positions, which matters when one of your devices reads the pedal backwards relative to the other2.
A single footswitch handles output selection. Depending on the configuration, it toggles between EXP1 and EXP2, activates both outputs at once (EXP1+EXP2), or disables the outputs entirely2.
MIDI
The Trash Pandas connect over MIDI TRS using a 1/8 inch (3.5 mm) stereo jack plug, and the MIDI channel is selectable2. One thing to plan for on a larger board: the Dual has no MIDI thru, so it cannot pass incoming MIDI along to the next device in the chain. The Quad version does have a MIDI thru socket, and Oscillator Devices states that the MIDI Thru socket is latency-free2.
Dual and Quad compared
The Trash Panda series also includes a four-output version, the Trash Panda Quad2.
| Trash Panda Dual | Trash Panda Quad | |
|---|---|---|
| Expression outputs | 22 | 42 |
| Expression pedal input | Yes2 | Yes2 |
| MIDI thru | No2 | Yes, latency-free2 |
| Footswitches | Single footswitch: toggle EXP1/EXP2, both outputs, or disable2 | Two footswitches to cycle through the four outputs2 |
| Per-output inversion | Yes2 | Yes2 |
| Tapers | Adjustable2 | Inverted, logarithmic, reverse logarithmic2 |
| Operating modes | Manual Mode and Preset Mode2 |
The Quad's two footswitches cycle through the four expression outputs to select which one the connected expression pedal currently controls, and each of its outputs can have tapers such as inverted, logarithmic or reverse logarithmic. It also offers two main operating modes, Manual Mode and Preset Mode2.
The Dual's per-output inversion works the same way as on the Quad, but the taper options and the Manual/Preset operating modes are features of the Quad2.

Questions
Can the Trash Panda Dual run two pedals from one expression pedal?
Yes. The Trash Panda Dual takes a single expression pedal and splits it to two effects devices with expression pedal or CV inputs. A single footswitch toggles which output the pedal controls, EXP1 or EXP2, or, depending on the configuration, activates both outputs at once or disables them entirely.
Does the Trash Panda Dual have MIDI thru?
No. The Trash Panda Dual does not have a MIDI thru socket. The four-output Trash Panda Quad does, and on that unit the MIDI Thru socket is latency-free. Both units use a 1/8 inch (3.5 mm) stereo jack plug for MIDI over TRS.
Can you change the MIDI channel on a Trash Panda?
Yes. The Trash Panda series has a selectable MIDI channel, and the Dual's maker lists the Dual as adjustable in this respect. Each output can also be individually switched between Expression and CV mode.
What is the difference between the Trash Panda Dual and Quad?
The Dual has two expression outputs and no MIDI thru; the Quad has four outputs and does have MIDI thru. The Quad adds two footswitches for cycling through its four outputs, tapers such as logarithmic and reverse logarithmic, and two operating modes, Manual Mode and Preset Mode. Both allow per-output inversion to swap heel and toe positions.
Does the Trash Panda Dual work with CV inputs?
Yes. Oscillator Devices describes the Dual as splitting one expression pedal to two effects devices with expression pedal or CV inputs, and each output on the Trash Pandas can be individually switched between Expression and CV mode.
