Pepper Pedals Serrano Overdrive

The Serrano Overdrive is a guitar effects pedal from Pepper Pedals, a small builder whose pedals have appeared on Pedal of the Day under names drawn from chili peppers. It is an overdrive, the effect type that pushes an amp or models that push, rather than the heavier clipping of distortion or fuzz.¹

What it does

Pedal of the Day reviewed the pedal, also called the Serrano Drive, in a video feature on 29 July 2014. The reviewer, Kyle, summed up its gain range and the styles it suits²:

That places it in the territory players usually reach for when they want light breakup that responds to picking strength, rather than sustained high-gain distortion. Players comparing overdrives in that range often look at circuits like the Boss SD-1 vs Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer as reference points.

Pepper Pedals' pepper-named drive range also includes the Jalapeño Overdrive, the Jalapeño Drive, and a one-off Chipotle / Jalapeño 2-In-1 Dual Overdrive that combined the builder's distortion and overdrive circuits in a single enclosure.
