The Peterson StroboStomp Mini is a compact guitar tuner pedal with a precise strobe display, built by Peterson Strobe Tuners, a company with a long history in professional tuning equipment1. It measures just 94mm x 46mm (H x W), with top-mounted jacks and a small footprint that suits tight pedalboards1. Peterson lists its accuracy as 0.1 cents, and it carries 80 sweetened tuning presets covering electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, baritone guitar and more1.

It is a smaller version of the popular Peterson StroboStomp HD pedal, trading the HD's larger screen and extra presets for a much smaller housing1.

What it does: a compact strobe tuner

The StroboStomp Mini is a tuner pedal built around a strobe display, the same approach Peterson has used across its StroboStomp lineup since the early 2000s2. A strobe display shows pitch movement in real time as rotating bands, which makes very fine tuning corrections easier to see than a needle or LED display. Peterson's earlier StroboStomp was rated to 1/10th of a cent, which the maker described as 30 times more accurate than LED and needle tuners5, and the Mini carries the same 0.1-cent accuracy rating1.

Note selection is automatic, and the transposition range runs from -6 to +5, so it handles both drop tunings and capo situations1. The sweetened tunings are the other half of the pitch story: these presets slightly offset individual notes to correct inherent tuning issues with specific instruments. The Mini's sweetened tunings include generic settings for electrics, acoustics, 12-string, and bass, plus the EVH tuning and loads more3. Reviewers of earlier Peterson pedals found the sweetened tunings genuinely effective; MusicRadar's reviewer of the Strobostomp 2 wrote that "it's the sweetened tunings that really work" and that they would not use anything else, save for the Buzz Feiten Tuning System6.

Peterson's manual for the Mini suggests using a thumb or finger to pluck the strings instead of a pick when tuning, a tip MusicRadar's reviewer endorsed1.

The controls and display

The display is an LCD with an LED backlight3. The default background color is orange, and you can choose from nine other background colors if you prefer something else1. This mirrors the StroboStomp HD, whose multi-color display lets users select preset colors globally or assign them to specific tuning presets2.

Sweetener tunings and all the other features are accessible via two pairs of buttons on either side of the pedal3. The footswitch is silent, but it takes a split-second to mute the signal rather than muting instantly1. Guitar World's reviewer described it plainly: "You depress the switch and then there's a very slight, split-second delay"3. The pedal is well built, with a sturdy and silent switch and a premium metal casing3.

Power and connections: 9V or USB-C

You can power the StroboStomp Mini by a conventional 9V power supply or by a USB-C cable1. It draws 86mA1. The jacks are top-mounted, and the connections are an input, an output, a 9V DC input, and a USB-C port1.

The StroboStomp Mini has no power output for other pedals, unlike some other popular tuners1. If you power the rest of your board from your tuner, you will need a separate power supply or distribution brick.

A smaller StroboStomp HD

The Mini is a smaller version of the StroboStomp HD1, which Peterson unveiled at NAMM 20197. The HD is a larger pedal with 135 sweetened tunings, a bigger multi-color display that doubled the pixel resolution over its predecessor, and a true-bypass mode revamped for a pop-less experience82. Premier Guitar's reviewer called the HD "one really robust pedal that feels like a high-tech mini-brick" and accurate to +/- .01 cent, while noting it is "a bit pricier than others in its class"89. The HD's custom colors can be configured through Peterson's website app, Peterson Connect, with updates over USB10.

The Mini keeps the core of that design, the strobe display, the sweetened tunings, and the choice of true or buffered bypass, in a housing about half the width. The bypass choice works the same way: you can choose whether the pedal switches off when your signal is muted, or whether it continues to monitor your tuning while unmuted3. Peterson's earlier StroboStomp offered the same selectable bypass modes, letting you tune while playing or set it for silent tuning with true bypass when the tuner is off5.

What reviewers said

MusicRadar's reviewer found the StroboStomp Mini extremely accurate, writing that with the 0.1-cent accuracy claim, "that is easy" to believe after playing around with the pedal1. Guitar World's reviewer concluded that with its small footprint, top-mounted jacks, accuracy within 0.1 cents, and additional features, it is probably the tuner to beat in its size class3.

Writing at Guitar.com in 2026, Cillian Breathnach described the Peterson StroboStomp HD and Mini line as "pretty much the de facto high-end tuner pedals"11. The main criticisms reviewers raised are the split-second mute delay and the absence of a power output13.

Questions

Can the StroboStomp Mini be powered by USB-C?

Yes. The StroboStomp Mini can be powered either by a conventional 9V DC power supply or by a USB-C cable, so it can run off a pedalboard power brick or a USB wall charger. It draws 86mA. It has no power output for feeding other pedals.

Does the StroboStomp Mini have a power output for other pedals?

No. Unlike some other popular tuner pedals, the StroboStomp Mini has no power output for daisy-chaining other pedals. Its connections are an input, an output, a 9V DC power input, and a USB-C port. You will need a separate power distribution solution for the rest of your board.

How many sweetened tunings does the StroboStomp Mini have?

It carries 80 sweetened tuning presets. These include general settings for electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, and baritone guitar, plus specific ones such as 12-string settings and the EVH tuning. Sweetened tunings slightly offset certain notes to correct inherent tuning issues with particular instruments.

Is the StroboStomp Mini true bypass or buffered?

Both, and you choose. The StroboStomp Mini offers true or buffered bypass. In buffered mode you can choose whether the pedal switches off when your signal is muted, or whether it continues to monitor your tuning while you play unmuted.

Why does the StroboStomp Mini footswitch mute with a slight delay?

The footswitch is silent, but it takes a split-second to mute the signal rather than muting instantly. You depress the switch and then there is a very slight delay before the signal cuts. Reviewers at both Guitar World and MusicRadar noted this behavior; it is a small trade-off for the switch's silent operation.

What note range can the StroboStomp Mini detect?

The StroboStomp Mini detects notes from C0 to A#8, which comfortably covers guitar and bass plus low-tuned instruments such as baritone guitar. Note selection is automatic, and its transposition range runs from -6 to +5, covering drop and capo tunings.
