The Ratin Apeiron Morphing Fuzz is a two-in-one dirt pedal from the German effects maker Ratin Pedals, built out of a partnership between Technoir guitarist Alexandros Finizio and the company. It delivers what Guitar World describes as a huge range of overdrive, distortion and fuzz tones, with each of its two sides offering three voicings: overdrive, distortion and fuzz1.
Two channels, six voicings
Each side of the pedal carries three voicings, overdrive, distortion and fuzz, so a player can cover a wide spread of dirt tones from one enclosure1. The two channels are not identical twins:
| Channel | Character |
|---|---|
| Channel 1 | Smoother, vintage tone, supposedly more akin to a germanium circuit despite the silicon diode1 |
| Channel 2 | A more modern take, offering "hi-gain, hi-definition" tones1 |
The channels can be used together as well as separately. Guitar World reported that players can stack or contrast voices across the two sides according to their preference, and that it is not a simple double-up, as each channel has a distinct tone of its own1.
The pedal's concept, in the words given via Finizio: "[The unit starts] from the idea that all types of distortion share a common DNA and our love for old fuzz pedals"1.
Design and build
The Apeiron is hand-built in Germany by Ratin's designer and producer Alireza Roshannahad1. The pedal was announced on 20 December 2022, and could be pre-ordered until December 25 of that year at an introductory price of €185, approximately $197, plus shipping1.

Questions
Is the Ratin Apeiron a germanium or silicon fuzz?
The Apeiron is based on a silicon fuzz circuit, not germanium. However, its Channel 1 is described as offering a smoother, vintage tone that is supposedly more akin to a germanium circuit, despite the silicon diode. Channel 2 takes a more modern approach with hi-gain, hi-definition tones.
Can the two channels be stacked?
Yes. Players can stack or contrast voices across the two sides according to their preference, and Guitar World notes it is not a simple double-up: each channel has a distinct tone of its own. Each channel also has its own independent level, tone and volume knobs.
