The Saturnworks Booster Looper is a true bypass looper with a clean boost circuit placed on the return of its effects loop. That placement is the point of the pedal: instead of boosting your guitar signal on its way into a chain of effects, it boosts whatever comes back out of the loop, so the extra level is applied after your other pedals. Saturnworks describes the pedal as "a true bypass looper with a clean boost circuit on the return of its effects loop."1
What it does
The booster looper is built around a specific problem: some pedals drop in volume when you switch them on. Because the boost sits on the return of the loop, it can push the level of an engaged pedal back up, or lift the whole loop above unity. Saturnworks says the pedal "is helpful to boost pedal that have a volume dip when engaged."1
The loop itself works like any true bypass looper: your other pedals sit in the loop, and a footswitch takes them in and out of the signal path entirely when bypassed. The clean boost on the return means the gain is applied to the loop's output rather than its input1.
Using it as a standalone clean boost
The boost circuit can be used on its own, without anything in the loop. Saturnworks explains that it "can also be used on its own as a clean booster by simply connecting the send/return jacks of its loop with a patch cable."1
With the send and return tied together, the loop is effectively closed, and the boost on the return acts on your guitar signal directly. That makes the pedal a two-in-one1:
- a looper for taking a group of effects in and out of the signal path with one footswitch
- a clean boost on the loop's return, for lifting pedals with a volume dip or pushing the level of everything in the loop1
Where it sits in Saturnworks' looper range
Saturnworks builds the Booster Looper as one variation of its true bypass looper platform, and makes separate versions for other jobs. The variations named on the maker's own pages include2:
| Variation | What it adds to the looper |
|---|---|
| Booster Looper | Clean boost circuit on the loop's return1 |
| Feedback Looper | Feedback control3 |
| Kill Switch Pedal | Kill switch function4 |
| Amp and Device Switches | Switching for amps and other devices5 |
| True Bypass Looper | The base looper itself2 |
The Booster Looper is one of several looper variations Saturnworks builds on the same true bypass looper platform. If you want feedback control, a kill switch, or amp and device switching instead of a boost on the return, Saturnworks makes a separate variation for each of those jobs.2345
