FootswitchesTwo, one per tremolo12
I/OIndependent input and output jacks for each circuit13

The Silvertone Twin Trem is a dual analog tremolo pedal that puts two complete tremolo circuits in one enclosure: a fully functioning optical tremolo circuit on the left side and a fully functional harmonic tremolo on the right1. It is made by Jackson Audio in collaboration with Silvertone, and it is the second pedal the two companies have built together, after the 1484 Twin Twelve, a pedal preamp version of the legendary Silvertone 1484 amp12. These are not digital recreations; the circuits are all-analog1.

The appeal for a player is flexibility. Each tremolo has its own controls, its own footswitch and its own input and output jacks, so the two effects can be used separately, together in series, or even split into different parts of a signal chain13.

Optical and harmonic tremolo in one analog pedal

The two circuits work differently, and that difference is the point of the pedal135.

  • Optical tremolo (BLUE, left side): the classic approach, changing the overall volume of the guitar in a repeating pulse. At its slowest speed setting, the optical side cycles through minimum and maximum volume in just a little under a full second, which Premier Guitar's reviewer noted is slower than the equivalent speeds on amplifier tremolos56.
  • Harmonic tremolo (RED, right side): a different kind of tremolo, initially developed in Fender "brown face" amps, that alternately changes the volume of bass and treble frequencies rather than the whole signal7. In the Twin Trem's circuit, high and low frequency bands are split and volume-attenuated out of phase from each other6. Jackson Audio describes the result as "Warm, dimensional movement that shifts between frequency bands and moves around your playing."4

Because each circuit has its own jacks, the two tremolos can be separated, or another effect can be placed between them. Jackson Audio's own example is putting a reverb between the harmonic and optical sides4. Delicious Audio describes the pedal as a dual tremolo stompbox with two parallel Optical and Harmonic circuits, with independent inputs and outputs allowing a variety of routing, including stereo configurations or split chains3.

The pedal sits in the same robust metal chassis as the Twin Twelve1.

The controls, footswitches and jacks

Each side of the pedal is operated by its own three-knob array: speed, depth, and a smaller volume knob that boosts or cuts the output of that individual circuit6. Guitar.com's review describes the same layout, with separate speed and depth controls for each effect plus a mini-knob for the volume of each1.

ControlWhat it does
Speed (per circuit)Sets the rate of that tremolo's modulation35
Depth (per circuit)Sets how deep the modulation goes35
Volume mini-knob (per circuit)Boosts or cuts the output of that circuit16
Footswitch (per circuit)Engages that tremolo independently of the other12

Two details make the pedal easy to read on a dark stage. The volume knobs are illuminated, blue on one side and red on the other, and they fade in and out to visually indicate the speed of each circuit3. And a single status LED uses three colors: red for harmonic, blue for optical, and purple when both are on1.

The independent input and output jacks for each circuit sit on the top of the pedal, so you can fit the two tremolos into your chain independently if you want to1.

What reviewers said

Guitar.com's Eric Dahl reviewed the Twin Trem in March 2025 and gave it a 10/10 rating, writing1:

"With lush and authentic sounds both separately and apart, this might be the very best tremolo pedal on the market."1

Premier Guitar's reviewer, in a January 2025 review, described the pedal as just short of 300 bucks and walked through how each circuit operates6. Guitar Pedal X, reporting on the November 2024 announcement, found the $299 pricing about right, while noting the writer would have felt it better justified at $249 or $2792.

Who makes it, and what it costs

The Twin Trem is made by Jackson Audio and designed in collaboration with Silvertone42. It follows the pair's earlier 1484 Twin Twelve tremolo/amp combo pedal, a pedal preamp version of the 1484 amp13. Jackson Audio lists a shipping lead time of 3 to 4 weeks on its product page4.

The list price is $299 in the US, announced in November 20241 and still quoted at $299 in the March 2025 guitar.com review, which also listed it at £249 in the UK1.

Questions

Can you run both tremolos on the Silvertone Twin Trem at the same time?

Yes. The two circuits can be used separately or together in series, and stacking them produces more complex LFO shapes than either circuit alone. A single status LED shows what is active: blue for optical, red for harmonic, and purple when both are running.

What is the difference between optical and harmonic tremolo?

Optical tremolo raises and lowers the overall volume of the guitar, the classic amplifier-style pulse. Harmonic tremolo, first developed in Fender brown face amps, splits the signal into high and low frequency bands and attenuates their volumes out of phase with each other, which produces a smoother, swirling motion.

How much does the Silvertone Twin Trem cost?

The list price is $299 in the US, announced in November 2024 and still quoted at $299 in the March 2025 guitar.com review, which also listed it at £249 in the UK. Premier Guitar's reviewer described it as just short of 300 bucks.

Who makes the Silvertone Twin Trem?

It is made by Jackson Audio, designed in collaboration with Silvertone. It is the second pedal the two companies have produced together, following the 1484 Twin Twelve, a pedal preamp version of the classic Silvertone 1484 amplifier.

What do the LED colors on the Twin Trem mean?

The single status LED uses three colors: red means the harmonic tremolo is on, blue means the optical tremolo is on, and purple means both are running. The illuminated volume knobs also fade in and out to show the speed of each circuit.
