The Snarling Dogs Super Bawl Whine-O Wah is an analog wah pedal from Snarling Dogs, and it does not look like a typical wah. It has a bright red base and a foot-shaped treadle, which RockBoard's PedalPedia describes as reminiscent of the custom gas pedals fitted to hot rod cars in the 1970s. When the effect is switched on, the red LED eyes of the trademark dog in the middle of the treadle light up12.

Three wah voicings and a second inductor

The pedal's main feature is a three-position range selector switch on the left side, choosing between Shaft, Voo Doo and White Room wah sounds. These positions were designed to simulate the most recognized wah sounds, like those used on "Shaft," Hendrix's "Voodoo Chile" and Cream's "White Room"12. The switch changes between high-pass, mid-pass and low-pass filters, which alters the EQ response in each position1.

On the right side of the pedal sit two more controls: a two-way Hormone Control switch that selects between Estrogen or Testosterone settings for clean or dirty tones, and an effect volume control12.

The fourth control is the Twinductor Beef Boost, located on top of the pedal just above the fourth toe on the treadle. It activates a second inductor that adds a compressed boost and a layer of thickness to the wah's sound2. That second inductor is what gives the pedal its "Twinductor" name and sets it apart from a conventional single-inductor wah.

How it plays and how it is powered

Vintage Guitar's March 1999 review found the treadle very responsive to the slightest movement, with an action described as fairly tight, so the pedal can be left set in a fixed position, and a fairly wide sweep2.

"The Super Bawl is very responsive to the slightest treadle movement and the treadle's action is fairly tight, so you can leave it set in a fixed position."
Vintage Guitar magazine, March 19992

Power comes from a 9-volt battery or a regulated 9-volt power supply. The battery cavity is on the bottom of the pedal, fastened with a single flathead screw, which the reviewer called easily accessible2.

The Super Bawl was offered in two versions: one with a hard bypass switch and one with a true hard bypass on/off switch. The version Vintage Guitar tested had the true hard bypass2.
