The SolidGoldFX Funkzilla is an envelope filter pedal, the effect family that produces the auto-wah and quacking sounds heard in funk playing. SolidGoldFX announced its launch on 20 March 2014, describing it as blending "an all-analog filter engine with tap tempo, variable waveforms, rhythmic patterns, direction and expression control"1. It sits among other filter designs in the Filter Pedals category.
What it does
An envelope filter opens and closes a filter in response to how hard you play, so the sound moves with your picking dynamics. The Funkzilla adds timing and shape options that many simpler filters leave out: tap tempo for setting the speed of the effect in time with a song, variable waveforms, rhythmic patterns, and control over sweep direction1.
For day-to-day shaping, the pedal carries standard Frequency and Depth controls. SolidGoldFX describes these as making it "easy to quickly shape the character of the filter", with Frequency setting where the filter sits in the tonal range and Depth setting how far it sweeps1.
An expression pedal input allows external control of the effect, letting a player sweep the filter by foot in real time1.
Availability
At launch, SolidGoldFX said the Funkzilla was available through SolidGoldFX dealers as well as direct from the company, at a street price of $250.001.
