Fuzz, modulation and reverb pedals
SolidGoldFX's catalog leans heavily on vintage-inspired fuzz designs alongside modulation and ambient effects. Its fuzz line includes the If 6 Was 9 BC183 MKII, a silicon fuzz2; the Imperial MKII, a fuzz inspired by the 70's Jen Jumbo Fuzz that replaces knobs with four sliders in homage to the original8; the 76 MKII, a silicon octave fuzz5; and the Communication Breakdown, which Guitar World's Trevor Curwen reviewed as a fuzz pedal of Canadian origin285.
On the modulation and reverb side, the Surf Rider IV is a compact spring reverb pedal with modulation9, and the Ether is a modulated reverberator that the maker describes as delivering "vast ambient and shimmering soundscapes," with a selectable shimmer effect10. The Oblivion Quad Flanger is a flanger pedal11, and the Lysis is an octave down fuzz with modulation. The company's range also includes overdrives, among them the SuperDrive Beta and Zeta12.
Several pedals take an expression pedal, which widens what a player can control live without bending down:
| Pedal | Expression connection | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Aurras Optical Vibraphase | Expression pedal input | 13 |
| NU-33 Vinyl Engine | Internally assignable expression pedal/CV input | 14 |
| Apollo | Expression pedal controls the depth function | 15 |
| Surf Rider Deluxe | Expression input for on-the-fly reverb depth adjustments | 16 |
Premier Guitar's review of the Apollo tap-tempo phaser listed "Expression-pedal capability" among the pedal's pros, calling it "a great feature that really extends the pedal's capabilities"15.
SolidGoldFX and Diamond Pedals
Diamond Pedals, another Canadian pedal maker, was acquired by Montreal's SolidGoldFX3. In 2023, SolidGoldFX purchased Diamond Pedals from Polyblend Inc., Diamond's parent company, and the two remain separate brands built under the same roof in Montreal4.
Guitar.com reported the acquisition and SolidGoldFX's plans for the brand:
"SolidGoldFX has assured pedal lovers that while they own Diamond, the two brands will stay completely separate."
SolidGoldFX itself puts it the same way: the two "will remain separate brands, despite being built under the same roof"4. Diamond's legacy pedals keep the same circuitry under the new ownership, while receiving updated parts and manufacturing processes3. One caveat for owners of older Diamond pedals: because no parts or stock were included in the purchase, SolidGoldFX stated it might not be able to repair previously built Diamond pedals, though it invited owners of older Diamond pedals needing repairs to contact them3. The two brands share a newsletter and web presence171819.
Warranty: three years to the original owner
All SolidGoldFX pedals come with a limited 3-year warranty from the original date of purchase, covering defects in parts or workmanship for products bought through solidgoldfx.com or authorized dealers6. The details a player should know:
- The warranty applies only to the original owner and is not transferable6
- Coverage terminates three years after the owner receives the product6
- Covered products are repaired free of charge, but the owner pays shipping to and from SolidGoldFX6
- Cosmetic flaws and normal wear and tear are not covered6
- Tampering, modification, abuse, misuse, unauthorized third-party repair, or failure to follow the operating instructions cancels coverage, and an improper power supply voids the warranty6
Manuals, repairs and returns
Manuals are downloadable per pedal from the SolidGoldFX support pages, which let you select a pedal to download its manual, and many product pages link straight to a PDF, such as the Aurras Optical Vibraphase manual2021. If a manual cannot be found, the company asks customers to send a message to info@solidgoldfx.com20. RockBoard's PedalPedia also hosts direct manual links for pedals such as the 76 MKII and the Beta-V Bass Preamp2223.
For returns and exchanges, SolidGoldFX's policies are:
- Returns are accepted within 7 business days of receiving the order for a refund, with a 10% re-stocking fee; return shipping costs are the customer's responsibility6
- Exchanges for a product of equal value are accepted within 14 business days of receiving the order, with a 10% re-stocking fee6
- A 5% cancellation fee applies to orders canceled before shipping6
- Refunds go back to the original payment method and may take 3 to 5 business days to process6
All sales of clearance items, B-stock, modified or custom orders are final, and these items are not eligible for exchanges or returns624.
