The Sonicake Sonic Dub is a compact digital looper pedal from Sonicake, sold under the product name QSS-13. It is built around a single footswitch and a Loop Volume knob, and it holds three loop banks with 12 minutes of looping time each, so a player can keep three separate phrases on the pedal and switch between them. Sonicake lists it at a regular price of $59.99 USD as of 26 October 20261.

What it does

Sonicake describes the Sonic Dub as "a simple looper pedal with 3 loop banks"1. The whole pedal runs on one footswitch: press to record, press again to play back, and keep going from there. Alongside the recording, the pedal supports unlimited overdubs and undo/redo, so you can layer parts onto a loop and take back a mistake without clearing the phrase1. Sonicake sums up the design as an "Easy-to-Use One Button Looper with Loop Volume Control"2.

The Loop Volume knob is the only control besides the footswitch. It sets the playback level of the loop, which lets you balance a recorded phrase against your live signal without changing your amp or pedal gain3.

For a first looper, the layout is about as short as it gets: one switch, one knob, three banks. Players who want stereo outputs, stored backing tracks with rhythm, or multiple simultaneous loops would look instead at pedals like the TC Electronic Ditto X2 Looper, the Boss RC-1 Loop Station or the Donner Tiny Looper; the Sonic Dub's pitch is simplicity and loop storage over features. See the Looping Pedals page for how the type works more broadly13.

Power and connections

The Sonic Dub runs on a DC 9V supply with a 5.5×2.1mm center negative plug and draws 125mA. The power supply is not included, and there is no battery option, so it needs a regular center negative pedal power supply to work21.

There is no battery compartment, and the power supply is not in the box. The 125mA draw means a low-current output on a daisy chain may not be enough; use an output rated for at least 125mA.

The pedal's other connection is a Type-C USB port, which Sonicake lists for importing and exporting loop phrases3.

Moving loops on and off the pedal

The USB port turns the Sonic Dub into a straightforward file-transfer device. When connected, the looper is recognized by a computer as a USB disk named SONIC DUB4. Each of the three loop banks appears as a folder, and the loop in each folder is a single audio file named LOOPER.WAV.

To export a loop, drag the LOOPER.WAV file from one of the three bank folders onto your computer4. To import audio, the folder must be emptied first, then a WAV file can be dragged in4.

The format requirements are specific: the imported audio file should be a 32-bit integer, 44.1kHz, mono WAV file, and it must be named LOOPER.WAV3. Loops recorded on the pedal are saved in 44.1kHz 32-bit integer format4. In practice, that means a stereo backing track or an MP3 from your computer has to be converted to a 32-bit integer 44.1kHz mono WAV and renamed before the pedal will accept it.

Questions

Does the Sonicake Sonic Dub take a battery?

No. Sonicake's product page states that the Sonic Dub works with a 9V center negative regular pedal power supply, and that the supply is not included. There is no battery option, so plan on a dedicated 9V output or a powered pedalboard supply with at least 125mA available for this pedal.

What power supply does the Sonic Dub need?

It needs a DC 9V supply with a 5.5×2.1mm center negative plug, drawing 125mA. The supply is not included with the pedal. A standard center negative pedal power supply output rated for 125mA or more will run it; a low-current daisy-chain output may not.

How long can the Sonic Dub record a loop?

The Sonic Dub has three loop banks, and each bank has 12 minutes of looping time, for 36 minutes of storage across the pedal. It records and plays back at 24-bit/44.1kHz quality and supports unlimited overdubs with undo and redo.

Can I import my own backing track into the Sonic Dub?

Yes. Connect it to a computer over USB and it appears as a USB disk named SONIC DUB. Drag a WAV file into one of the three bank folders to import it. The folder must be emptied before importing, and the file must meet the format requirements below.

What file format does the Sonic Dub use for loops?

Loops are saved in 44.1kHz 32-bit integer format. An imported file must be a 32-bit integer, 44.1kHz, mono WAV file, and it must be named LOOPER.WAV. Exporting works the same way: drag the LOOPER.WAV file out of one of the three bank folders onto your computer.

Does the Sonic Dub have a volume control?

Yes. Sonicake describes it as an easy-to-use one button looper with loop volume control. A Loop Volume knob sets the playback level of the loop, which is useful for balancing a recorded phrase against your live playing.
