Spurr Audio PMF-8824

The Spurr Audio PMF-8824 Personal Multi-FX Modulator is a compact multi-effects pedal that combines eight modulation effects in one unit, wrapped in a look borrowed from early 1980s personal computers. Premier Guitar described it at its announcement as "a compact multi-modulation pedal that fuses vintage digital aesthetics with modern DSP-based creativity"¹². Pedal of the Day called it "equal parts nostalgic and futuristic" in its design².

It is a DSP-based digital pedal, and it is mono: one audio path, though each effect is built to feel wider than that, using stereo-style modulation, spatial tricks, and reverb-like environments to expand the perceived soundstage¹².

Eight modulation effects in a retro computer look

The PMF-8824 carries eight custom-designed effects, each with its own dedicated screen layout, visual feedback, and real-time control over three contextual parameters, labeled Ctrl 1 to 3¹. The housing and graphical interface are modeled after personal computer aesthetics, with pixel fonts, windowed layouts, and real-time visual meters that give each effect its own interactive "page"¹. Pedal of the Day adds that each program has its own dedicated screen layout on the retro-inspired pixel screen².

Four of the eight effects are named in the published coverage:

The remaining named effects step outside the usual modulation lineup. Microchoir is a digital choir inspired by classic organ voicing, and VCR (VHS Lo-Fi) produces warped, nostalgic tape textures with saturation². Pedal of the Day describes the set as ranging from classic time-based modulation to these more unconventional tones².

For players comparing single pedals, the phaser, tremolo, vibrato and chorus programs cover the same ground as dedicated phaser and other individual units, while Microchoir and VCR offer textures those pedals do not².

Availability and price

Premier Guitar reported that the PMF-8824 was available for pre-order for a street price of $219 at its announcement in August 2025¹. No later availability or price figure has been published.

What reviewers said

Pedal of the Day reviewed the pedal on August 26, 2025 and was positive about playing it²:

Pedal of the Day reviewed the PMF-8824 Personal Multi-FX Modulator, describing it as a pedal that combines multiple modulation effects with a vintage look and sound². The review highlighted the three effects, tremolo with waveform selection, tape-style vibrato, and a wide 4-voice chorus with a built-in reverb option, along with the retro-inspired pixel screen that gives each program its own layout with visual feedback and real-time control over three contextual parameters².

The same review highlighted the mono signal path as a design choice offset by the immersive character of each effect².
